ONE!

Southwood is embarking on a journey based on Deidra Riggs’ book, ONE–Unity in a Divided World. Books are available now and this fall, we’ll launch into a movement that challenges each of us to open our hearts. This is how change begins.

I am so excited for Southwood to begin this study! I pray our hearts will be open to honest conversation and the author’s challenge to us as the body of Christ.” —Denise Meyer, Ministry Advisory Board Chair Southwood staff recently held their own Small Group study on ONE. Here’s what some had to say:

“ “

The One study was challenging. It motivated me to put myself into the shoes of another person who is different than me in an effort to better understand why they think and feel the way they do.” —Pastor Greg Here’s a learning from the book, One, that spoke to me: ‘When we let ourselves be manipulated by rhetoric that encourages us to keep our guard up and treat others with suspicion and fear…We diminish our ability to follow the teachings of Jesus, who called us to love even our enemies.’” —Pastor Michael

The author showed us how every person is valuable and created in God’s image, and how the Holy Spirit leads us to unity by opening us to our differences and teaching us to be for one another even when we disagree. It all starts with listening—to God and to one another.” —Pastor Karl-John

This is a great start to being the change we want to see in the world! The study prompted beautiful conversation and made me think differently.” —Jo Sheets, Director of Ministries

Depression

We all have disappointments in life that bring us down. Depression affects more than mood. Helping someone with depression can be a challenge, leaving you wondering what to do. Start with these tips: ff Listen—don’t try to talk them into ‘feeling better’; it’s not that simple. ff Believe what they say—Be someone they can trust without feeling judged. ff Encourage treatment—all too often people feel they should ‘get over it’ and don’t get help. Stay alert for warning signs of suicide and know how to respond if you see them. Source: https://mayocl.in/2L5eF9r
