Heifer International Zambia Finance Officer - Luapula Function: The Finance Officer will report to Provincial Program Manager but directly supervised required to work directly with Heifer Zambia Finance Manager or designee. S/he will provide support to the organization as it implements the strategic goals and objectives of Heifer International. S/he will provide administrative and financial support and will be responsible for capturing accounting information, prepare bank reconciliation statements and donor financial reports. Responsibilities: 1. Prepare payments and perform receipting and banking of funds. 2. Maintain daily cash position and reconcile staff imprest accounts. 3. Input cashbook data into designated accounting software system. 4. Compile and submits timely accurate financial reports to Finance Manager or designee for review within the prescribed guidelines. 5. Attend to auditors’ requests in coordination with Finance Manager or designee. 6. File records of all financial transactions. 7. Manage and maintain fixed assets, small asset registers and stocks. 8. Coordinate purchases of general office and project goods and services in accordance to Heifer Zambia procurement policies and procedures. 9. Maintain correspondence with banks, suppliers and service providers. 10. Oversee maintenance and repair of office buildings and surroundings as well as equipment and furniture. 11. Coordinate travel and accommodation arrangements for staff and guests. 12. May perform other job-related responsibilities as assigned. Minimum Requirements:  Diploma in accountancy, full Association of Accounting Technicians certification, Natech, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants/Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Level II or equivalent, plus three (3) years’ experience in accounting, particularly in donor/grant-funded institutions.  Significant experience to one or more computerized accounting packages, preferably QuickBooks, Accpac, or Pastel. Preferred Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field. Most Critical Proficiencies:  Good analytical skills.  Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.  A good understanding and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger and environment, and knowledge of the context to which non-profit organizations operate.

Computer proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic mail software, and knowledge of accounting software (e.g.: MS Office Suite, DOS, Accounting packages). Strong organizational skills. Demonstrated written and oral fluency in English.

Essential Job Functions and Physical Demands:  Preparing and presenting documents in a well-designed and attractive format with superior attention to detail.  Good attendance and high moral character; must be creative and a team player and be willing to work in a collaborative environment.  Maintaining the highest level of professionalism when dealing with donors, project participants, Heifer Zambia staff, and partner organizations.  Willingness to contribute to Heifer International’s principles of transparency and honesty.  Proven team and customer care skills with the ability to train and work cooperatively with a diverse staff, including field staff in several locations.  Constant face-to-face, telephone and electronic communication with colleagues, both internal and external.  Ability to carry and lift up to 20 pounds (9 kilograms) floor-to-waist.  May require constant sitting and moving; working at a computer for extended periods.  Working with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.  Performing multiple tasks with minimal supervision.  Willingness to work with a flexible schedule.  Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally.
