Small Group Discussion Questions During biblical times, women were considered inferior to men. Although they were expected to abide by the law, they were not allowed to learn to read or study. Jesus did not agree with this practice. In Luke 10:38-42, he encouraged Mary to sit at his feet and learn. Jesus thought of women as being equal in rank with men as daughters of Abraham (Luke 13:16) “Here is Your Mother”

Paul addressed men and women equally in his letters. Women were co-workers, deacons, apostles, emissaries, official delegates, prophets and leaders of house churches. From the cross Jesus showed love, care, and concern for those around him. The repentant sinner received the promise to be with Jesus in paradise that very day. To the soldiers crucifying Jesus, he sought forgiveness for them. Mary the mother of Jesus, he thought of her needs. He gave her a spiritual “son” to take care of her. What stood out to you from Steve’s message? Read Exodus 20:12 Why was Jesus so specific in instruction for the caring of Mary? How did Jesus honor his mother when he said, “Woman, here is your son”? What is our responsibility as children and as members of the church regarding taking care of one another? Why is this becoming more important today?
