Highland on Mission: Many of you blessed those less fortunate over the Christmas season by contributing to the Giving Tree Ministry. Over 100 gifts were given, making Christmas special for children in need.

Here are two of the notes we received from those who were blessed. “Dear Giving Tree Givers, THANK YOU for making Christmas miracles come true for so many of our families. Your help, support and thoughtful outreach make such an incredible impact on our school community. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you!” One student wrote, “Thank you for the Christmas gifts for my family. I can’t wait to open them. It was very kind and generous of you. Merry Christmas!” Relationships are being built with local school staff to build a bridge into the community. In February and March you will have the opportunity to donate necessary clothing and personal hygiene items for local elementary schools. Orientation Class: If you would like to know more about Highland, you will want to take this class! It will meet on five Wednesday nights (February 20 – March 20) from 6:15–7:45 pm at the Wausau campus in room C14. If you desire to become a member of Highland, this class is a prerequisite (but you do not need to become a member if you take the class). It is taught by our pastors. Please register at https://hcc-register.com/. If you have children, One Way Club (age 4 – 5th grade) and G180 Youth Group are available during the class, but advance registration is required for both programs. Congregational Meeting: All attenders are encouraged to attend the congregational meeting on Sunday, February 24. It will be held at each campus during the Sunday school hour (9:20–10:10 am). Baptism: On Sunday, February 17, we will have indoor baptism services at each campus. If you want to be

updates, along with voting on reaffirming Elders and MTLs. If you have children, nursery and Sunday school will be available during the meeting; however, there will not be adult Sunday school on this Sunday.

3rd Monday Worship Service—February 18: For this service we’ll look at Luke 18:28-29 which reminds us that we should rejoice at the sacrifices we make to follow Jesus. Why? Because Jesus reminds us that our reward is great in heaven! Join us as we look at what it means to be a future-focused follower of Jesus. Make sure to follow our 3rd Monday Facebook event to get all the details for each month’s service. The service starts at 6:30 pm; the coffee bar opens at 6:00 pm, so come early and bring a friend!

Children’s Ministry (NextGen) (Age: birth to grade 5)

During the months of February and March our Community Outreach will be collecting items for local schools to benefit children who need extra help with basic needs. Donated items will be divided among local schools.

One Way Club: Register anytime; forms are available in the lobbies and online. We meet Wednesday evenings, beginning at 6:00 pm at both the Weston and Wausau campus sites. Club is for children age 4 – 5th grade. Blood Drive: On Thursday, February 21, Highland will host a blood drive for the Blood Center of Northcentral Wisconsin. Their mobile site will be held in the Café room at the Wausau campus from 3:00–7:00 pm. Appointments are not necessary. Please plan to stop by during this time period. Family Carnival Night: Wednesday, February 20, from 6:00–8:00 pm at the Wausau campus. The whole family is invited to enjoy a fun night of games, bounce houses, popcorn, candy, and more.

Life Groups are a small group of people that meet weekly or biweekly to study God’s Word, discuss the issues and challenges of life, pray, and care for one another. We are looking for more leaders. VBS Craft Needs: Good sturdy wrapping paper or toilet paper tubes, and Ziploc sandwich & quart size bags. Donations can be dropped off at the Connection Point at any of our campus sites.

Journeys Singles Group Join us for study and fellowship at the Wausau campus on Friday evenings (during the school year) at 7:00 pm in room B11/12.

Women’s Ministry Come Join the IF:Gathering 2019 Simulcast: At the Wausau campus on Friday, February 8 (6:00–9:00 pm) & Saturday, February 9 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm). Lunch is on your own. Cost $10. Register and pay online at https://hcc-register.com/. You will learn what it means to rely on the wisdom of God and not on your own understanding. Speakers include: Jennie Allen, Jill Briscoe, Amena Brown Owen, Lauren Chandler, Annie Downs, Bianca Olthoff, Jo Saxton, Angie Smith, and more! Marathon Campus Marathon Studies: Overcoming Emotions that Destroy and Adult Sunday school at 9:20 am Sundays.

If:Table: Ladies are invited to share a simple meal, while diving deeper over real stories and Christ-centered conversations. We meet after WORD classes on the 2 nd Wednesday of each month (February 13, March 13, April 10, and May 8) from 11:15 am – 12:15 pm in the Café room (Wausau campus). Men’s Ministry No Regrets Conference—February 2 — 8:20 am–4:00 pm: If you haven’t registered, you can do so at the door (check or cash only). Ticket price includes lunch. Men’s Studies in Progress – Jump in at any Time! Gather and learn principles and practices to help you grow in your walk with Christ. Collegiate Day of Prayer: On February 28, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm, women will gather to lift up prayers for college campuses. Meet in room B3 at the Wausau campus. The Collegiate Day of Prayer is a day of united, multigenerational prayer for revival and spiritual awakening on college campuses across America. Please consider adopting in prayer your university, local college campuses, your alma mater, and the colleges where your children and grandchildren attend. Women's Retreat March 29-31: Our retreat (for all ages) will be the “Refresh” retreat at Forest Springs Camp & Conference Center. Brochures are at the Connection Point at each campus. Youth Ministries (Grade 6 to 12) CIFT Night: On February 13, we will hold our Current Issues Facing Teens night (C.I.F.T.). It is an evening where we dig into a specific issue that our students face. You won’t want to miss this informative night. More info can be found online at www.highlandg180.com.

G180 Movie Night: On February 17, students will have an opportunity to see the movie, Paul, Apostle of Christ, at the Cosmo Theatre in Merrill. $10 covers the cost of admission, transportation, and pizza (during discussion time at Ott’s Garage following the movie). Please register WITH payment by Wednesday, February 13. At that time we will then open up available movie seats to other groups. After the deadline, you may contact Trudy Morice at [email protected] to see if there are still spots available. The bus will leave the Wausau campus at 2:15 pm and return about 7:00 pm. Remember to bring extra money for concessions.

Triggers: Exchanging Parents’ Angry Reactions for Gentle Biblical Responses: by Amber Lia and Wendy Speake. In this mother-based book study we will look at Jesus’ approach to us as His children and learn how to turn that attitude of grace and patience towards our children. The book goes over a series of internal and external triggers that can drive us to react in an angry manner, and provides practical Biblical responses we can offer our children. Led by Amanda McLellan. Meets in room C14 at the Wausau Campus from 7:30–9:30 pm on: March 21; April 4 & 18; May 2 & 16. DayBreak: This middle school (6th – 8th grade) trip is designed specifically for students who are looking to learn ways to bring Jesus into their friendships and teach practical spiritual disciplines at a junior high level. DayBreak will be held March 8 – 10 at Forest Springs Camp and Conference Center in Westboro, WI. The cost is $100 per student (all-inclusive); info can be found at each Connection Point or at www.highlandg180.com.

Young Adults Ministry The Young Adults Ministry is for anyone college-age through their 30s, whether married, single, or dating. We meet in the Café room at the Wausau campus on Monday nights. The coffee bar opens at 6:00 pm; the study starts at 6:30 pm. For more information, contact Pastor Sam at [email protected]. In February, we will continue our series called Silhouettes and Stories as we take a look at a different person in the Old Testament each week.

New To Highland

Card Ministry: Interested in fellowship and homemade greeting card exchange? We meet every two months. Contact Paulette Lang at 715-581-0407 (call/text) or [email protected].

Welcome! At Highland we want to help you take the next step in your relationship with Christ. Whether you are exploring church for the first time, returning after many years, or are a long-time Christ follower new to the community, we would like to help you take your next step. CONNECT: We encourage you to get involved in our Highland community. This could be a social group, a Bible study group, men’s group, women’s group, Care Group, or more. GROW: Attend an informal newcomer reception (offered a couple times per year); attend our Orientation Class (offered a couple times per year); and/or attend one of our many adult studies. GO: We have found that serving in the church and in the community helps people take the next step in ways that GROW and CONNECT alone just can’t do.

Centershot Ministry: This archery sport league is for ages 10 and up. Sessions include Bible study and target shooting; equipment is provided. This is a great outreach for family and friends. Sessions are held at the Marathon and Weston campus sites. Parents and grandparents are encouraged to attend. Pre-registration is necessary, as space is limited for each session. Body & Soul Fitness: We believe that fitness involves more than just your body. We care about the health of your body and soul. This all-in-one workout burns calories, builds core and overall strength, improves flexibility and balance, and increases your energy level. Cardio, strength/interval training offers all this and more, with an uplifting positive message through the music. Classes meet on Mondays and Thursdays at 5:45 pm. Sermons Available Online: Watch or listen to a sermon, or encourage a friend to hear what the Scriptures say about a topic! Find them on our teaching page at www.highlandcommunitychurch.com, on our App, or on podcast.

Hospital Visits: If you are scheduled for surgery or end up in the hospital and would like a visit, please contact the church office. While the hospitals request information about your home church, they do not let us know you are there. Please know that the pastoral staff is not always on Facebook, so though you may put your hospitalization or surgery on Facebook, we may not see it.

Traditions Service: Did you know Highland offers a choice of worship styles? Each week, our Traditions service continues the rich tradition of worshiping God through hymns with piano accompaniment. It’s a smaller service with a friendly, welcoming family atmosphere where it’s easy to know everyone’s name. If you’re looking for a change of pace, check out the Traditions service each Sunday at 8:50 am (during the summer) or at 10:20 am (during the school year). It is held in room B12 at the Wausau campus.

Grapevine Ministry: This ministry serves to encourage those in need. Services include: loaner home medical equipment, and handmade cards of encouragement. Contact Kathy Comport at 715-675-3557. Adult Co-Ed & Sunday School Classes Overcoming Emotions that Destroy: Learn the difference between good and bad anger, how to gain control of it, and how emotions can be constructive tools that God can use to transform lives and relationships. Discussion and study will follow the video lesson. This 11–session study will be held:  Wednesdays at 6:30 pm at the Marathon campus; led by Bill Mech, Andy Tikalsky, and Tom Krause  Thursdays at 6:30 pm at the Wausau campus in room B4; led by Tom Krause, Bill Mech, and Andy Tikalsky.

Meal Providers: Show Christ’s love by providing a meal for those in our church body who have just had a baby, surgery, etc. Meals can be as simple as delivering a pizza. SUNDAY SCHOOL: Each campus has a full offering of adult Sunday school classes starting at 9:20 am each Sunday during the school year (except during Christmas and Easter breaks).

Prayer Chain Ministry: If you are willing to confidentially be in prayer about requests that come in, let us know you would like to be involved in this vital ministry. Send an email (with your name included) to the office at [email protected] and we will add you to our prayer chain.

Marathon Adult Sunday Classes: Christian Beliefs: Learn how to study Scripture to find answers to fundamental questions. Led by Dale Sturm, Tom Krause, and Pastor Brian Whitaker.

Prayer Requests: Blank prayer cards are located at the Connection Point and in the Friendship Registers. Completed prayer cards may be placed in the offering basket or lobby drop box. Wausau Adult Sunday Classes: Verse by Verse—1 Timothy: Come learn how to grow closer to God! Led by Dave Mahler; room B7.

Prayer Meeting in Wausau: Join us Wednesday mornings at 7:10 am in the Wausau campus library to pray for the needs of the church body.

Equipping Class—Discipleship: The class format blends teaching, video, and discussion. The goal of the class is to “equip the saints.” Led by Steve Vandenberg and Steve Clements; Café room.

Prayer Shawl Ministry (part of Grapevine Ministry): We meet for prayer, work on shawls/lap robes, and provide instruction for those who are interested in learning to knit or crochet. For more information, contact Donna Gregg at 630-337-1661.

Book of Ephesians: Paul covers some of the most wonderful and controversial teachings in the Bible that are as vital and important today as they were when he wrote Ephesians. Led by Elgin Hushbeck; room B3.

Romans: This is group discussion based study using Inductive Bible Study methods. We’ll study the Sovereignty of God and the text that fueled the Reformation, and how these truths should impact saints today. Led by Jerre Wright; room B4.

Extraordinary—The Life You’re Meant to Live: by John Bevere. Don’t settle for mediocrity! Learn that you were “meant for more,” extraordinarily created, and intended for a life that is anything but ordinary. Meets Tuesdays, from 6:00–7:00 pm in room B2 at the Wausau campus. Led by Jim Williams and Ken Landry.

Weston Adult Sunday Classes: Equipping Class—Anatomy of a Disciple: This class focuses on the Song of Solomon and a Biblical understanding of relationships and marriage. Led by Pastors Andrew and Dan; meet in the Worship Center.

2 Corinthians: We deal with the same issues the Corinthians dealt with, so come learn practical truths that can be applied today. Led by Jerre Wright. Meets at two different times: Tuesdays (6:30–8:00 pm) and Wednesdays (9:00–10:30 am) – both in room C14 (Wausau campus.

Isaiah: The Salvation of Yahweh: This general introduction of the book of Isaiah will cover the high points and lay a firm foundation for future examination. Led by Mark Voss and Dan Esterline.

The Gospel of Luke: This study typically meets on the 2nd & 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:00 am at the Weston campus. New participants are welcome at any time. Led by Pastor Dan MacDonald.

Children’s Ministry Sunday School: Sunday school for age 2 – 5th grade meets during the school year at 9:20 am.

Singles’ Ministry

One Way Club (Wausau and Weston Campus Sites): Meets Wednesdays, from 6:00–8:00 pm (7:30 pm for the Weston campus), from mid-September through mid-April.

All Single Adults: Single adults of all ages are invited to attend studies or other events that meet at Highland. Feel free to join any group at any time.

Centershot Archery for Tournament Season (January – March): For children 4th – 12th grade. Parents are encouraged to participate in the practices with their children. All equipment is provided. Regular practices will start in January on Monday and Thursday evenings. For more information, contact Kris Schumacher at [email protected] or 715-675-3686.

Journeys: For singles age 40 and older. Our Friday Night Fellowship is a safe place to develop genuine, godly friendships and grow together in Christ through His Word and prayer. We meet from 7:00–8:30 pm in room B12 at the Wausau campus. (Our Friday Night Fellowship does not meet during the summer.) Check Highland’s online calendar for current social events. Men’s Ministry Manhood Restored: This study combines theological depth with practical insights, putting men in step with a gospel-centered manhood that directs them back to God’s original intent for their lives. Meets weekly from 6:30–7:30 am in room C1 at the Wausau campus. Led by Pastor Isaiah DeMoss.

The Real Win: In this book study, The Real Win: A Man’s Quest for Authentic Success, NFL quarterback Colt McCoy and Pastor Matt Carter wrestle deeply and personally with the challenge of Biblical manhood, then deliver down-to-earth Biblical answers. Mothers of Preschoolers: Are you a mom with young children looking for community, support, and encouragement? Join MOPS! Mothers of Preschoolers is a community of women in the thick of mothering young children. Shepherding a Child’s Heart: This parenting class is about how to speak to the heart of your child, as the things your child does and says flow from the heart. This study is for moms with children of any age. This insightful DVD series provides perspectives and procedures for shepherding your child’s heart into the paths of life. Moms NEXT: This ministry is for moms whose children are elementary school age. Join us as we seek to encourage and learn from each other! Prayer Shawl Ministry: This fall begins our 6th year! Join us in ministering to others with shawls, lap robes, hats, mittens, and other offerings of support to the church family and surrounding community as the Lord leads. Pray-ers, knitters, crocheters, and quilters are welcome. Those interested in learning to knit or crochet, are welcome to join us. We would love to help you. G180: G180 is the Junior High and Senior High Youth Ministry at Highland. Our name describes a generation of youth who desire to turn 180° from the world and toward Christ. Our goal is to equip youth to grow in their relationship with Christ, build healthy friendships, and learn from God’s Word. While the Jr. High (grades 6 to 8) and Sr. High (grades 9 to 12) groups both meet on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 pm during the school year, each group has separate programs aside from combined worship and a few events. There is also Sunday school, yearly trips, special events, leadership opportunities, and so much more for youth. Just ask us!
