Hospitality Volunteer Heifer Farm in Rutland, Massachusetts *Academic credit fulfilling an internship requirement is possible with this position – please inquire! Requirements: Minimum age of 18 years old at start of service period; Residence on-site; 40+ hours per week; Initial commitment of full service period; Complete required training and follow all policies & procedures. There are four position seasons… As soon as possible through August 19, 2018 January 24, 2018 through January 20, 2019 April or May 2018 through November 1, 2018 August 22, 2018 through August 18, 2019

Schedule: 40-50 hours per week; Two days off/week; Frequent weekend and evening work is necessary. Perks: Cost of Living Reimbursement Stipend of $196 per two-week stipend period; On-site, communal-style housing provided; Access to farm vehicles for local transportation; Access to free health insurance through MassHealth if needed; Heifer Gift Shop discount during term of active service. Supervised by: Hospitality and Event Coordinator Responsibilities: 1. Food Service: Work with supervisor to plan and prepare farm-to-table menus for Heifer Farm’s education program participants, café customers, rental guests & events visitors; Assist with ensuring food safety and kitchen cleanliness; 2. Retail: Assist with gift shop & café coordination and receptionist greeting visitors and answering phones; 3. Hospitality: Assist with lodging coordination and Visitor Center housekeeping duties; 4. Events: Assist with rental event and public event coordination. 5. Education: Periodically lead and facilitate experiential education as scheduled; 6. Learn the basic information about issues of hunger and poverty, the mission of Heifer International, and link Heifer Farm programs to Heifer’s work around the world; 7. Perform other tasks as needs dictate, particularly in the colder months there may be other guest operations tasks such as communications, promotions, visioning and planning, etc. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 1. Experience and/or eagerness to learn meal planning and preparation; Ability to prepare meals for 15-50 people (some experience cooking is required); Willingness to handle and prepare meat for meals; 2. Experience and/or eagerness to learn gift shop and café operations; 3. Experience and/or eagerness to learn lodging coordination and housekeeping tasks; 4. Experience and/or eagerness to learn event coordination; 5. Experience and/or eagerness to learn education program facilitation; 6. Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work cooperatively with a wide range of people - facilitation and teaching skills are desirable; 7. Ability to lift 25 pounds and stand for extended periods; 8. Willingness & ability to share housing (including room) with a diverse group of other Heifer Farm volunteers & participate in the household community including housekeeping chores.
