How Farrell’s Has Changed My Life How has Farrell’s changed my life? Where do I begin!? From the many new friendships to a healthier relationship with food, Farrell’s has changed my life in too many ways to list in a onepage essay. To keep things from going on and on, I’ll try to limit myself and focus on some of the larger changes that have taken place throughout my journey this past year. I heard of Farrell’s Extreme Bodyshaping through various radio ads and a few acquaintances that had gone through the 10-week program, but it wasn’t until my wife Jenny completed her 10-week session that I decided the program could work for me. You see, up to that point I was of the mindset that group fitness wasn’t for me and that the only way I was going to get back in shape was by grinding it out at the big box gym lifting heaving weights. Sitting at the 10-week party, seeing the enthusiasm of everyone that had finished the session in addition to the coaches and instructors that helped them get there was magical. That energy coupled with the amazing transformation I saw in my wife throughout the session inspired me to sign up. The summer 2017 session flew by and like so many that session and before I was blown away by the noticeable change evident in the after photos. I was eating better, sleeping better, and my clothes were fitting much better. Beyond that, I saw a huge shift in my overall view of exercise and how it fit into my daily life. Where I would look for excuses to avoid the gym in the past, I was now finding every reason to go to the gym. It no longer felt like an inconvenience to go to the gym because my friends and family were there, and we were going to sweat it out together. It was no small miracle but FXB helped me realize that the most important aspect of exercise for me is finding the thing that I enjoy doing and finding like-minded people to do it with. By figuring out that I enjoyed kickboxing and strength training in a group format it changed the dynamic of working out from this thing that I must do to this thing that I want to do! Another big change has been my understanding of proper nutrition. Before starting at Farrell’s, I viewed proper nutrition as this complicated process that required an advanced math degree to figure out. Starting from day one of orientation, everyone made it clear that nutrition does not have to be that difficult. By using the nutrition guide and my custom protein, carb, and fat numbers I can easily determine what foods and quantities I should be eating at each meal throughout the day. It’s also made it very easy to calculate what I should be eating in those instances where I don’t have a meal prepped ahead of time and must determine what to eat on the fly. There were times throughout the past year that old habits crept back in and progress stalled but each time I could get right back on track using the foundational knowledge that I learned during my first session. I remember being on the fence about signing up for the national challenge but after completing it I can’t imagine doing things any differently. Throughout the past year I’ve dramatically improved my health, made many new friendships, and have had the opportunity to witness many other amazing transformations. I am thankful for the community at Farrell’s and look forward to years of continued fitness with my friends and family.
