Remember our Veterans and Fallen Heroes while supporting PoPLC Youth at the same time!

Over the last four years, our Family Community Service project has been raising money for Wreaths Across America. This year, we’re raising money for two great causes: Wreaths Across America (WAA) & PoPLC Youth. By raising money for WAA, we earn back a portion of that donation to support PoPLC Youth programs such as attending the National Youth Gathering. It is truly a win-win!

Thank you for donating!

Thank you for donating to these great causes! Between cash donations last weekend and online donations received thus far, we’ve raised $986 toward our $1000 goal! We are so close we can taste it!

How can you help?

You can either donate or volunteer to help!

There is still time to donate before the November 30 deadline for this year’s wreaths. Although we’re not in the Narthex this weekend, you can still go to our donation website and donate online… http://give.wreathsacrossamerica.org/goto/poplc Any POPLC Youth who would like to earn a portion of the funds raised to help pay for the National Youth Gathering Trip next summer, can volunteer by contacting Mrs. Oakley. You can also earn service hours for volunteering! We will continue to look for opportunities to collect donations through Memorial Day 2016. Please consider donating to, or volunteering for these great causes. Blessings & Peace, Suzanne and Erin Oakley [email protected] 703-690-7374

We did it! With your help we have reached our goal to begin Phase II of our Natural Playscape on our Front Playground. This phase is planned to begin over Thanksgiving weekend. We have Phase III, still in our plans, so it is never too late to donate! Hopefully by Springtime we will have the funds to move forward with Phase III!! We truly appreciate your generosity and prayers.

The children are enjoying what we have accomplished so far! Cindy Deatherage 703 451 6177 [email protected]

Help PoP Youth Ministry by Shopping with Scrips this Christmas If you normally purchase gift cards for Christmas, please consider purchasing through the PoP Scrip Program. Shop at over 700 stores, restaurants, and hotels without going to the crazy malls during the holiday season! We have an extended list of gift cards available to purchase now or order. Christmas shopping couldn’t be easier! Use the cards for your own holiday shopping, allow loved ones to pick out just what they want, or use the cards for those great after-Christmas sales. Also, save on shipping costs to those out-of-towners with these very lightweight gifts. Plus, don’t forget to treat yourself to a couple of worry-free meals during the hectic holiday season by buying several of the restaurant cards for yourself. The Youth Ministry receives a percentage from the sale of each scrip, so please consider using them for your everyday shopping. Youth families especially benefit - this is a great way to earn money for your student’s account! A bulk order will be placed on December 7 to guarantee delivery in time for Christmas. You can order online at shopwithscrip.com. You will need to enroll using the following code: 867E81L26L67. Or pick up an order form at the Scrip Station, complete and return your form and payment (checks should be made payable to “PoP Youth”) to the Scrip Station after the 8:15 a.m. service. Michelle Perschbacher (571) 263-3805 [email protected]

Please print for the weekend of 12/5-6 as well. Thanks!!

We encourage participation by women of all ages and stages in their faith life and invite you to bring a friend or neighbor. This month’s selection is Resolving Everyday Conflict by Ken Sande. Everyone encounters conflict. This book is a practical, biblical, and concise guide to peacemaking in everyday life. Books may be purchased in the church office or on line. The Solution to Loneliness: US! In the book, The All Better Book, elementary children were asked to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems, like how to get people to stop smoking or how to fix climate change. Here’s a question that got me thinking: “With billions of people in the world, someone should be able to figure out a system where no one is lonely. What would you suggest?” In the book, Kalani, age 8, suggested: “People should find lonely people and ask their name and address. Then ask people who aren’t lonely their name and address. When you have an even amount of each, assign lonely and not lonely people together in the newspaper.” What wisdom: Connect people. Despite all our technology and social media ways to connect with others today, loneliness is epidemic. A 2014 National Science Foundation reported more than 25% of Americans have no one with whom they can talk about their personal troubles or triumphs. A 2014 University of Chicago study found loneliness to be twice as bad for older people's health as obesity and almost as great a cause of death as poverty. But shocking as these studies, they overlook the loneliness Communion epidemic among younger adults. A 2010 Mental Health Foundation study found Assistant 18 to 34-year-olds were more likely to feel lonely often, to worry about feeling alone and to feel depressed because of loneliness than adults over age 55. Stephen Ministry : One-t0-One Christian Care Ever wished you could talk with someone about life issues? Do you need someone who will listen and care about you? Need the freedom to relinquish a hurt or disappointment? Has the stress of work and family simply worn you out? Holidays are difficult. Maybe a Stephen Ministry relationship would help. Stephen Ministry is a lay person ministry to provide confidential one-to-one Christian care through listening, supporting, praying and encouraging. There is no specified time period for the relationship. It can last for a single meeting or may stretch over a year of weekly meetings. Prince of Peace is a Stephen Ministry congregation. Crescent Project's National Oasis Conference From Jihad to Jesus: Overcoming Evil With Good in the Face of Islam

Prince of Peace Measures

More than 200 attended the Oasis Conference at Open Door Presbyterian Church in Herndon.

FY16 - Qtr 1

There were many good workshops including one on demographics: In Metro D.C., there are 190 nations represented among 3,000 people groups. We are the most compressed per capita/square mile. Springfield has the second largest concentration of Pashtuns in the U.S. While global missions are glorified, domestic missions are a fraction of what it costs abroad. Somalian leaders gather at Starbucks near Skyline Towers. Networks are based on food, family, friends, faith and festivals. There is a craving for relationships and discipleship. Kate McCord delivered the keynote plenary session that focused on how to reach our neighbor as God sees them. McCord's biblical narrative included: 2 Peter 3:9 * Jeremiah 31:3 * Malachi 3:17 * Isaiah 41:13 * Psalm 147:3 * Isaiah 43:5 * Lamentations 3:22-23 * John 3:16 * Zephaniah 3:17 * Jeremiah 29:10-14 * 1 Corinthians 2:9 * Romans 5:8 “Love is the heart of God,” she said. We are orphans who have lost our way home in the chasm between this world and next. The bridge is thin as human hair and sharp as razor. Jesus carries us over the bridge. The power of the King helps us deliver the invitation. We don't have to see outcomes but be faithful to the call. How do I carry the invitation? Wisdom is from God. Faith Stories Sharing your faith story is an integral component in living out your faith. Your individual story makes up the greater story—the story of God’s redeeming his people for himself. Our stories encourage other believers while God also uses them to reach those not yet connected to him.  Prayed with several new believers of Muslim background at Oasis Conference.  Witnessed to a casual friend how God is faithful through trials and Jesus is my best friend who loves and cares about me and is always ready to listen. You can share your stories by writing them in the “Friendship Folder” at any worship service, or post your story as a comment on the http://popfaithstories.wordpress.com, or by sending an e-mail to [email protected].
