INTRODUCTION Paul says that we are in a struggle. It’s not primarily against things we can see, but against an enemy that’s unseen. So often we think our struggles are against a person, family member, or classmate, or because of a financial setback, loss, or sickness. Those things are definite struggles, but Paul says there’s another battle going on. Sometimes, we struggle because we have a spiritual enemy who wants to attack us. Because we can’t see or hear that enemy, we often don’t think of him as being the cause of our struggles.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. What challenges do you have each week that could be a result of Satan trying to make a mess in your life?

Stand your ground—stand firm and hold the line as a spouse, parent, person of character. Don’t move!

2. As a destroyer, Satan has been prowling around waiting for the right time to pounce. Have you ever experienced his attack? If so, what did he do? How did he attack?

Live by truth (belt of truth)—are you living a truthful life or are you compromising your character with things you cover up?

3. Ephesians 6:10 says, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, authorities and powers of this dark world. So put on the full armor of God so that when the day of evil comes you can stand your ground.” Evil will come. The Bible says so. Prior to this message, how did you shield yourself from evil? 4. Read Ephesians 6: 10-20 and reflect on the pieces of armor. Which ones are you having the hardest time putting to use? Which piece are you going to give the attention it needs in your life?

THINK ABOUT IT

Strengthen your character (breastplate of righteousness)—are you living an upright godly life or are you living a life that has a double standard? Raise your faith (shield of faith)—is your faith in the Lord and his mighty strength or is it in your own strength and planning? Know the Word (sword of the Spirit)—are you meditating and memorizing God’s Word? Prayer (pray in the Spirit on all occasions)—are you consistently praying protection over yourself, your family, and church?

We have an enemy who’s looking for a way to attack and destroy us—he’s alive, real, and ruthless. But he’s also powerless against those who know who he is and how to defeat him. Stand your ground, live in truth, strengthen your character, raise your faith, know the Word, and pray in the Spirit.

COMMIT TO MEMORY To Him who is able to do far more than we could ask or imagine, according to His power at work within us. Ephesians 3:20
