January 8, 2014 Volume 7, Number 1 Year End Financial Update For many years Central has operated on a faith based covenant budget. Year after year, God has provided for our needs through the ever faithful Central family. We are pleased to report that 2013 continues this trend. Central completed the year by funding approximately 100.4% of our annual budget and spent approximately 99.1% of budgeted funds leading to a modest surplus. The Finance Committee will review the full year end picture at their next meeting. We are also pleased to report that the Property Maintenance Fund was fully funded, and that due to strong year end giving to our Count Me In program, total debt on the church has been reduced below $3,875,000. Thank you seems so inadequate, but we want you all to know how much we appreciate your strong demonstration of generosity for the ministries and missions of Central. National Sanctity of Human Life Day Sunday, January 19th, is National Sanctity of Human Life Day. The United Methodist Church is committed to providing nurturing ministries to those who terminate a pregnancy, to those in the midst of a crisis pregnancy, and to those who give birth. Central UMC supports various ministries that provide these nurturing ministries such as Loving Choices Pregnancy Centers and the NWA Adoption Coalition. For more information about Loving Choices Pregnancy Centers, see the insert in this Sunday’s bulletin. Baby Bottle Campaign In support of National Sanctity of Human Life Day and Loving Choices Pregnancy Centers of Northwest Arkansas, Central is supporting Loving Choices’ Baby Bottle Campaign. You have the opportunity to pick up a baby bottle this Sunday following each worship service. Tables will be located in the foyer of the CAC and the Narthex of the Sanctuary. Please consider taking a bottle home, fill it with spare change and cash, and return it by Sunday, February 19th. All money collected will go to support the ministries of Loving Choices of Northwest Arkansas.

New Women’s Studies Beginning this Month The Truth Seekers Women’s Sunday School Class will begin the study Gideon: Your Weakness. God’s Strength, by Priscilla Shirer on January 12th. The class will meet from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. each Sunday in Wesley 307. This will be a 9-10 week study. The cost of the workbook is $14. For questions, or to sign up, please contact Marilyn Braswell at 283-2726, or [email protected]. You may also register for the class or pay for the class workbook by calling Susan Meek in the church office at 442-4237. Women’s Connections Ministry will begin Jim Cymbala’s When God’s Spirit Moves on January 14th. During this study, participants will learn how God wants to work through our gifts and talents and how to listen for the voice of the Holy Spirit. This 8 week study will be offered on Tuesday evenings, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Wesley 102. Cost is $10 for materials. To register contact Susan Meek at 442-4237 or [email protected] or you can register online at centraltolife.com/women. The Gathering will begin studying Beth Moore’s Esther in January. Moore opens up the book of Esther and addresses many of the similar challenges faced by women of both time periods, and offers encouragement for our hurried, harried, pressured lives. This 10-week study will be held on Wednesday mornings beginning January 22nd and finishing April 2nd. The class will meet from 9:30 - 11:30 a.m. in the Student Ministries Building. You may sign up online at thegatheringnwa.com or at centraltolife.com/ women, or by calling Susan Meek in the church office at 442-4237. Childcare is available upon request.

January Financial Challenge This past Sunday, January 5, Central faced the difficult decision of needing to cancel all of our worship services for the first time in many years. The winter storm was underway and increasing in severity at the time of worship and we were concerned for the safety of our parishioners and staff. This has obviously led to us getting off to a less than stellar start financially for 2014. We hope that you will consider a make-up offering either in a forthcoming Sunday in January or through an online gift at www. centraltolife.com to help us get back on track as we start this new year.
