*In our last lesson, we learned about the atonement in the Garden of Gethsemane.
*Jesus
suffered so much that He sweat drops of blood.
*Jesus suffered for our sins so we can be forgiven if we repent and obey His commandments. *When we do these things, we can be forgiven and cleansed from sin so we can live forever with Heavenly Father.
*Jesus had
been betrayed by Judas, one of the apostles, to the Jewish leaders. *In our lesson today, we will learn about the events that happened soon after Jesus finished praying in Gethsemane.

*The leaders of the
Jews sent men with swords and sticks to the Garden of Gethsemane.
*Judas
Iscariot was with them.
*The chief priests had paid Judas to show the men where Jesus was.
*Judas showed the men who Jesus was by kissing Him.
*The other apostles saw that Jesus had been betrayed.
*One of them drew
his sword to defend Jesus and wounded one of the men with Judas.
*Jesus rebuked him and healed the injured man.
*The men led
Jesus away.They mocked and hit Him. *Then they took Jesus to the high priest, Caiaphas.
*The Jewish leaders asked Jesus questions.
*The Jewish
leaders said that He had broken the law by saying that He was the Son of God. *Jesus told them that He was the Son of God. They said Jesus was guilty and should die.
*The Jewish leaders did not
have the authority to kill Jesus.
*They took
Him to Pontius Pilate, who could sentence Jesus to die.
*The Jewish leaders told Pilate
that Jesus had taught the people to disobey the Roman law.
*Pilate did not
think Jesus had done anything wrong. Pilate wanted to let Jesus go.
*The crowd
wanted Jesus to be crucified.
*Pilate still
wanted to let Jesus go. *But the priests and the people kept shouting that they wanted Jesus to be crucified.
*Pilate washed his hands. He said that he was not responsible for Jesus’s death.
*The people said that they would
be responsible for His death. *Pilate told his soldiers to crucify Jesus.

was asked if He was Christ, the Son of God, or King of the Jews, He answered. *Let’s read Matthew 26:63–64; 27:11
*Jesus did not
deny His identity or try to save Himself.
*Jesus knew that
He had to be crucified to complete His mission on earth.

words from the beginning of the lesson that describe what the people did to Jesus.
