Dear Neighbour, Crossrail Programme – Essential Improvement Works over Christmas – Shenfield station & sidings. I am writing to notify you that works will be happening at various times on the station/railway in your area from the evening of 24 December to 3 January 2016. Over the Christmas holidays, Network Rail will be undertaking essential improvement works as part of the Crossrail Programme, linking Reading and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, via new tunnels under central London. These works to upgrade the railway will allow for more reliable and more frequent rail services when Crossrail fully opens in 2019. In order to ensure that all works are completed, we will be working during the day and at night time however, we will seek to undertake the most disruptive works during the day time where possible. During the works, you may notice an increase in activity with engineers working on the station/railway using large machines, equipment and site lighting. At various locations across the route, we will be working at stations, undertaking track maintenance, modifying track alignment, replacing overhead wiring and installing new foundations for gantry structures. At Shenfield, we will be:

Piling to install foundations for overhead line gantries (country end sidings)

Modification and installation of overhead lines gantry structures (country end & London end of the station)

Installation of a track switch at country end of the station

Modifying the canopy on Platform 3

Installing cables to the canopies on Platforms 1-5

We will be using a mobile crane in various locations around Shenfield station at specific times to lift materials into the worksites to install overhead line gantries. The mobile crane will be located and operated in: • • •

There is a wide variety of activities taking place on the railway over the Christmas period and train services will be affected while lines are closed at various times. In order to plan your journey, please check tfl.gov.uk/festive or National Rail Enquiries before you travel over this Christmas period. We apologise for any inconvenience these essential works may cause. Whilst we do anticipate some of these works to be quite noisy at times, Best Practicable Means are adopted in order to keep noise levels to a minimum. The local authority has been, and will continue to be, consulted through the Control of Pollution Act 1974 (Section 61) process regarding the implementation of the works. I hope this information is helpful. However, if you have any additional questions or concerns, please telephone our 24-Hour National Helpline on 03457 11 41 41 and for more information about the Crossrail Programme please visit www.crossrail.co.uk

Yours faithfully
