Dear Neighbour, Crossrail Programme – Brentwood Station Network Rail is undertaking essential improvement works in your area as part of the Crossrail Programme. The new railway will link Reading and Heathrow in the west to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east, via new tunnels under central London, and will be known as the Elizabeth line. Current work at Brentwood Station is focussed on completing the platform communications system, and platform changes to cater for the new trains. We endeavour to undertake our construction work during the day-time; however, due to safety constraints and the need to keep the railway open as much as possible, work also has to be carried out at weekends and during the night. Description of works Construction of platform extensions at the east end of the station. We have completed the installation of the beams and slabs to the new platform extensions. The remaining tasks are surfacing the platform extensions and other finishing works. Typical machinery used includes cement mixers, a rail mounted crane and power tools. Operatives are instructed to keep noise to a minimum and to shut down machines when they are not in use. We will endeavour to conduct the more disruptive activities during daylight hours wherever possible and our operatives will use acoustic barriers whenever practicable.

Description of works Platform Adjustments During February and March our site team will make adjustments to the existing platform surface to ensure that the new Elizabeth Line trains are accessible from platform level. This work will be scheduled so that noisy activities take place during the daytime whenever possible, however it will still be necessary to work during the night. Typical equipment used will be mechanical breaker, circular saw and cement mixer.

Brentwood Station Car Park (St James Road) At the west end on Brentwood station car park we will continue to use the existing railway access point to deliver materials and equipment to the station platforms and to remove spoil. We will plan deliveries to take place during the day whenever possible; however some deliveries will have to take place during the late evening and at night. Whenever practicable our site team will stockpile materials within the Network Rail boundary to minimise vehicle movements. We will also use manually propelled track trolleys rather than machinery to transport materials and spoil whenever possible.
Unfortunately, we anticipate that some of these works will be noisy at times. However, we are committed to doing everything we can to keep noise levels to a minimum. The local authority will continue to be consulted through the Control of Pollution Act 1974 (Section 61) process regarding these works.
