Sacred Space for Sacred Moments Are you feeling overwhelmed by stress from work, illness, finances, or relationships? Are you facing a difficult decision? If so, Southwood has a new Sacred Space for prayer and meditation. On June 12, I experienced the power of having an intimate dialogue with God. I was fortunate to attend a Spiritual Retreat sponsored by Southwood at the St. Benedict Center in Schuyler, Nebraska. It was a wonderful opportunity to focus on my relationship with God. The entire experience was deeply meaningful. The most powerful experience for me was to spend time on my knees in prayer in a sacred space. The room that was set aside for prayer and meditation was a very peaceful space that allowed me to focus on God and all the things that were weighing on my heart. I had the sense that God had been waiting for me to talk openly with Him. I told Him about everything that I worried about, regretted doing and the blessings that I was so thankful for. I felt surrounded by love, acceptance and forgiveness. I knew in my heart that God loved and accepted me just as I was. He already knew what I was worried about and hoping for but He wanted me to come to Him with my problems, my hopes and especially my thankfulness. I could not hold back my tears. Even now I can remember how powerfully I felt His peace surrounding me. At Southwood, we are blessed to have a new sacred space to pray. Our new prayer room is a place where you can come with your deepest concerns and spend time on your knees strengthening your relationship with God. As Jesus told us in Matthew 11:28 (niv), “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” May you too have a Sacred Moment with God.

Caring 3 Tips for Everyday

Family Stress Busters for the Holidays

Christmas is supposed to be ‘the most wonderful time of the year.’ However, for many it is a time when the busyness ends up making it a stressful time of the year as well. Help your family through these times by trying the following tips: ff Perform acts of kindness—doing for others is a strong antidote for depression and anxiety. As a family, choose a way to do something for others—adopt a family in need, ring bells together, find a way to focus on the needs of others. ff Cultivate a sense of humor—Laughter can reduce stress and boost our immune system. Keep things fun and everyone healthy by laughing. ff Set realistic expectations—As a family, choose what is most important and cut out some things. Then, enjoy your time together.
