KING & COUNTRY: Week 5 – Triumph In Weakness Open in Prayer W elcom e/Introductions/Cast Vision Rem ind the Grow Group of the ground rules Share context of the story [Provide context by sharing the information below.]

God told Gideon that he would single-handedly take down the Midianites. Gideon asked God several times for reassurance that God would indeed deliver the Israelites. Every time, God responded with signs and wonders. Gideon then proceeded in faith toward Midian. This week, we will see how Gideon followed God’s instructions, no matter how unconventional His plan was. In the end, God delivered the victory that He had promised. Tell the story – this week’s passage is Judges 7:1-25 [Have someone tell the story.] Rebuild the story [Group members tell the story together based on what they remember.] Read the story out loud [Read the scripture passage to see if anything was added or omitted.] Discuss these questions:

1. What do we learn about God from this passage? [God uses the few and the weak so that we can clearly see that the praise and glory should only go to Him; God gives us clear instructions that He wants us to follow; God often accomplishes His work through unexpected ways and unlikely people; God’s power is most clearly revealed in my weakness; without faith, it is impossible to please God; God brings people into our lives to encourage us in our walk with Him; God is worthy of my trust; etc.]

2. What do we learn about Man/Us from this passage? [Instead of boasting in the Lord and His mighty works, I can boast in my actions; God wants me to acknowledge and admit my weaknesses; when I repent, God’s love and grace are even more precious to me; I forgive others little, because I think there is little in me that needs forgiving (Luke 7:47); I let good things become god things in my life; I must place my ultimate confidence in the Lord; when I am weak, I need to remember that God is strong; etc.]

3. What is God saying to you specifically through this passage as it pertains to your life, marriage, family, and work? 4. In light of what you’ve learned today, what do you need to do to obey God? Other Q uestions specific to this passage:

1. In what ways are you being challenged to step out in faith? 2. When has God weakened you so that you can see more clearly how powerful He is? How did this move you to praise Him? Assign Next week’s passage – Judges 10:6 - 11:40 [Ask someone to tell the story next week.] Close in Prayer

KING & COUNTRY: Week 5 – Leadership Coaching The purpose of this page is to help you sharpen your skills as a Grow Group leader. Each week, we will include concepts, challenges, and resources designed to assist you as you lead and shepherd your Grow Group and grow as a disciple yourself.

Leading [learn to facilitate your group more effectively] Prepare well - Pray and know your material Facilitate, don’t teach. Facilitation cultivates discussion; teaching only disperses information. Don’t feel like you have to know all the answers. We are human, and it’s okay for your Grow Group to see that you are limited. Don’t talk more than the rest of the Grow Group. Ask questions to generate discussion, ask people to explain their answers and go into more depth. Allow multiple people to respond, even if the first person gets the “right” answer. Do your best not to interrupt.

Shepherding [know the sheep, feed the sheep, lead the sheep, protect the sheep] Discuss our core values with your Grow Group this week. As an extension of our church body, we encourage you to spur one another on in making these a priority in your Grow Group and encouraging those in your group to commit to them at home as well. It is all about Him. People are the Mission. Discipleship happens in Relationship The Greatest here Serve. Our Generosity is a Fearless Sacrifice.

Developing [grow as a disciple yourself] In order to confidently speak truth into those around you, you must have the Truth cemented in you. Contemplate this verse this week. “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10 Do you really believe that God is in control of EVERYTHING around you?
