Did you know? North America uses 60% of the world's paper cups: that’s 400 MILLION cups per DAY! There are so many great alternatives available now. We're so happy with the Life Factory glass water bottles with protective silicone sleeve, and the super handy “Cuppow” lids which transform a Mason jar into a travel mug. And check out page 4 for an inexpensive and eco-friendly way to clean your floor!

Products I love – more earth-friendly products There continues to be a great variety of new products at the Kind Living boutique. Continuing with our commitment to selling earth-friendly products, I have brought in some great t-shirts from Be the Breath. For every t-shirt sold, Be the Breath will donate a tree to the Green World Campaign. In addition, several styles are made from plastic bottles and organic cotton. I love their manifesto, which can be found on the inside of several of their shirts: This is your life. This is your chance. Dance. Dream. Inspire and be free. Remember Kindness, Love, and Yoga are so very important. Fear is not. Choose love above all and smile with your entire heart. You are freaking awesome, so be gentle with yourself and remember we are all doing the best we can. Believe in peace. Believe in truth. Believe in you. Breathe deeply. This is your chance This is your life.

I am also happy to introduce: • Clearview Teas from Rebecca Moore of Creemore Ontario, • Tonic Clothing from Vancouver, • Dedicated Clothing from Quebec (made in Toronto), and • Sun Warrior raw vegan protein powder.

“It's a practice, not a performance” These wise words came from Darren Rhodes, a very knowledgeable and talented yoga teacher. I found his words particularly helpful as I heard them at precisely the moment when I came crashing down in the most inelegant of ways during a practice. Rather than defaulting into a litany of shame, scolding and disgust, I thought about what he said and was much kinder and forgiving to myself. I found myself also reflecting on how this advice is not limited to the mat. Life is a practice. We will stumble. We will make mistakes. We will also have great moments of joy and celebration. The real work is simply being on the mat, and not whether we perform a particular posture or asana to perfection. Off the mat, it's our intention we take into our interactions and experiences, hoping and intending to do our very best. I celebrate your courage, your devotion, your kindness and your grace. Thank you for sharing your journey with me. 2

Recipe time – Knock off Lara bars I love having healthy snacks that are good to go. Unfortunately, if I don't have healthy things handy, it's all too easy for me to reach for things that are what I lovingly refer to as “less than nourishing.” One solution is to purchase good quality energy bars. These are great, but even the good ones are higher in sugar than they need to be and are quite expensive. One of my favourites is the Lara bar. It has pure, simple ingredients (all of which I can pronounce). These are one of my go-to bars if I am hungry and don't have anything homemade with me. In an effort to recreate the goodness of the Lara bar and motivated to find a more economical version, I set out to make my own. There are loads of good websites that generously offer their recipes. Two sites I referenced were “Rawified” and “Oh She Glows”. I tried their version of the Lara bar and they were terrific. So, starting with their great recipe as a base, I tweaked it a bit to enhance the already impressive nutrient profile. The end result is pretty yummy and received positive feedback from students lucky enough to go to yoga on “sample day”. Best of all, these take only minutes to make! Knock-off Lara bars • • • • • • •

1 1/4 cup raw cashews 1/4 cup hemp hearts 1/2 teaspoon Himalayan or other good quality salt 1 cup packed pitted Medjool dates 1 teaspoon vanilla 1/4 cup goji berries 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips or raw cacao nibs

In food processor, pulse cashews and salt until “pebble-like” in consistency. Add dates and process to incorporate. Add vanilla. Mixture should stick together when pinched. If it's too dry, add water 1 teaspoon at a time. Add goji berries and chocolate chips. Press into parchment paper-lined 8X8 inch baking dish. Let cool and firm up in fridge or freezer. After about 15 minutes, remove from fridge and cut into desired size/shape bar. Wrap individually and store in fridge or freezer. Enjoy!

Instructor contact information For up-to-date information about the other instructors’ schedules, please contact them directly. Anita ([email protected]) Dawn ([email protected]) Kim ([email protected]) Rebecca ([email protected]) Susan ([email protected]) Meet our newest member of the Kind Living cleaning team – Fuzzy! I have been challenged with finding a solution to keep the yoga studio floor clean while not contributing to waste. While happy with the cleaning that a “Swiffer” or knock-off cleaning cloth provides, I wasn't at all happy with the disposable nature of using such a product. What to do? Well, go to Pinterest of course! A solution was found that we are just thrilled with! Simply use “fuzzy” socks, or in our case leg warmers, which fit neatly over the sweeper head. We give a light spritz with our homemade general purpose cleaner, and presto! We clean the floor thoroughly without creating excess waste! The socks/leg warmers can simply be laundered and used multiple times. Give this a try for your floors at home – I think you'll be happy with the results.

Please know that I fully stand behind any product I represent. So, if you are not absolutely thrilled with any product you purchase from me, I will not hesitate to give you a full refund. I am convinced that these products represent true value...ethically, environmentally, economically....and I hope you do, too!
