2017-2018

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD “The Robert Mayer Leadership Academy has graduated nearly 300 professionals from the Huntington Beach area since the inaugural class of 2007. By going through the Academy, not only do you have the opportunity to create your own network of community leaders, but you are also able to tap into the resources from past Academy alumni. This year we want to expand our pool of Academy alumni resources and encourage our Alumni to help give back to our current young leaders, so they can continue to grow on their leadership path. The Robert Mayer Leadership Academy has proven to be an invaluable tool in developing leadership skills necessary in today’s ever-changing business world. Your investment in the program has made this another successful year for the Academy!” Barbara Mason, Chairman Huntington Beach Chamber of Commerce

ABOUT ACADEMY The Leadership Academy provides Huntington Beach professionals with a unique opportunity to connect with their community and to better understand the components of its government, public safety, business community, economic climate, social uniqueness, education and health care system. Graduates have found the program to be invaluable to enhancing their careers and formulating lasting relationships with fellow classmates.

PROGRAM GOALS 1. Identify and motivate potential community leaders to become involved in their community. 2. Acquaint potential leaders with community needs and challenges. 3. Introduce participants to community leaders. Participants will gain a broader understanding of their community and how it functions.

WHY JOIN Applicants chosen for the 2017-2018 program will have the unique opportunity to develop their potential for public responsibility. Each of the nine workshops are designed to inform, motivate and challenge the participant and give you a glimpse behind the scenes of your community. As the workshop locations change to enhance and compliment the following dynamic topics, so do the presenters, who represent the community. The Leadership Academy does not advocate programs or particular solutions. It seeks, instead, to present the views of a wide spectrum of experts in the selected areas of discussion.

MESSAGE FROM OUR SPONSOR “With over fifty years of development experience, I have come to the conclusion that knowledge of one’s community and how it works is essential for success. I am pleased to sponsor the Leadership Academy with the Chamber of Commerce and provide this opportunity to the future leaders of Huntington Beach. I wish them success!” Robert L. Mayer, Chairman Emeritus The Mayer Corporation

WHAT GRADUATES SAY ABOUT THE PROGRAM “The Robert Mayer Leadership Academy was a fantastic way to gain valuable insight into civic government and local business by providing access to the people and companies that make the City of Huntington Beach prosper. As the program draws its participants from local business leaders, it also expands your professional network and creates lasting friendships. The program was very beneficial to me and I would strongly recommend attending the academy if the opportunity arises.” David Dansey, Area Director of Finance, Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort & Spa, Class of 2015 “The Robert Mayer Huntington Beach Leadership program is a must for all HB business owners and individuals. Through the program, you’ll meet many of the current leaders shaping our city. You’ll also walk away with concrete and actionable lessons you can apply to your personal and professional growth as well as the growth of our community. As a graduate of the program, I especially enjoyed the exchange of ideas among the locally based professionals in my class. I found the class topics diverse, informative and well organized. I can’t think of a better opportunity to gain such a deep understanding of our city’s resources, challenges and vision.
