May 6, 2018 Congregational Meeting

Elections for the Living Word Congregational Council will be held on Sunday, May 20 at 12:15pm. We hope all members come and cast votes for your council representatives. Today we will celebrate the 8th grade Confirmation Milestone at the 11 am worship service! This year 13 confirmands will affirm their baptism: Faith Black, Carson Haan, Jessica Escovy, Seth Gonzales, Annie Haegner, Abigail Hassel, Justin Jurek, Hayden Minnick, Sam Noonan, Ethan Peterson, Kristin Tuttle, Sam Utay, and Morghan Zbranek. The confirmands have attended learning events weekly for three years, served at least 12 hours and taken 16 sermon notes each of those years. Whew! In their 8th grade year, they learned about the Reformation and Arts & Music in Worship. They spent the month of January attending a service at a local synagogue, attending dinner church at an ELCA congregation, Kindred, and hearing from a guest speaker about Islam. In preparation for their Faith Statement projects, they took a spiritual gifts inventory, decided what type of project to do, wrote a rough draft, and a few weeks ago, turned in their final work. The projects will be in the lobby all Sunday morning, so take time to look at them! __________________________________________________

Baby Bottle Blessings Baby Bottle Blessings is an opportunity for Living Word to help raise funds that will help women facing an unexpected pregnancy. Examples of what the money is used for include: free pregnancy tests, free ultrasounds, parenting classes, and post-decision support including material assistance and ongoing coaching. To participate, pick up a baby bottle in the lobby next Sunday on Mother’s Day and place a check or spare change in the bottle as an offering. Please return all bottles no later than Father’s Day. __________________________________________________

Council Members' obligations as your church representatives are twofold: To partner with our Lead Pastor on visioning for Living Word and finding ways that we can be a Living Expression of Christ in the World; and to be good stewards and provide financial oversight for your generous contributions that fund our ministries. The Living Word Nominating Committee is currently working to identify members who are spiritually gifted and able to help create and fulfill the vision of the church, and/or have some financial or organizational gifts that will assist in our business obligations. There are five positions up for election, and the Nominating Committee will review, discern and pray in order to recommend five candidates who can meet the Council member qualifications. If you have a calling for this important work or would like to learn more, please contact the Nominating Committee chairman, Daren Beaudo at [email protected].

As a reminder, in addition to those who will be placed on the election ballot, the constitution also allows for nominations from the floor during the meeting, May 20 following the 11:00am service.

This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:12-13 This simple tool is based on a focus verse from the Sunday text, then your household uses it in a nightly ritual - SHARE highs and lows, READ the Bible verse or story, TALK about how the Bible might relate to highs and lows, PRAY for one another’s highs and lows, BLESS one another. _______________________________________________________
