In a rare case of diamond deja vu, Reece Bauer made his second plate appearance of the inning, and drew a walk to take first and load the bases, after Merkel stole second. Then Eisenhut drove in Ziegler for his second RBI of the inning. Griffen Bauer marked his return with a single to score Merkel and Reece Bauer, and Schott completed the shelling by bringing in Eisenhut and Griffen Bauer with one final single. Woolems anticipated an answer, and Northeast Dubois responded with the Blue Bombardment. Springs Valley would notch

three more runs in the seventh inning, but Reece Bauer, who was called upon to slam the door on the Blackhawks, was able to settle in and get three consecutive strikeouts to end the game and complete the rally. “I wasn’t nervous when I came in,” said Bauer. “Once I settled in I started throwing the strikes I wanted to and they couldn’t catch it.” Mehringer pitched three and one-third innings, Merkel threw two and two-thirds, and Reece Bauer closed out the evening. All three pitchers combined for sev-

en runs, eight hits, and six strikeouts. Alex Bauer went three-forfour with one RBI. Griffen Bauer, Eisenhut, and Schott combined for three hits and six RBI. Springs Valley’s staff of Whitaker, Brown, and senior Dylan White combined for 11 runs, 11 hits, and six strikeouts. Whitaker went two-for-three with an RBI. Senior catcher Collin Qualkenbush finished twofor-four with an RBI. The Jeeps’ next game is tonight against Vincennes Rivet (5-8, 1-4) and a win over the Patriots would earn them the Blue

Jeeps (Concluded from Page 24) Helming drove in Alex Bauer with a hit that should have been a single, but further fielding errors on the part of the Blackhawks allowed Helming to make a sneaky-fast trot to second. He would be replaced by courtesy runner Austin Knight. Senior center fielder Brandon Merkel smacked another single for the Jeeps, which scored Knight and advanced sophomore second baseman Ethan Ziegler, who drew a walk after Helming, to third base.

Chip conference title outright. Woolems believes that if his boys come out focused on their assignments and don’t allow themselves to be thrown off by the moment, they should be able to play their best game. The rest will take care of itself. “We can’t play against the game of baseball,” he said. “Sometimes we get wrapped up in who our opponent is and all this other stuff that’s going on — we let the game take advantage of us.  We just have to play the game of baseball and we’ll be fine.”
