ORDER OF SERVICE

Fourth Sunday in Lent This is the fourth Sunday in the season of Lent. Lent starts on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter. You will notice that the altar cloths have changed to light blue. Blue, purple, and grey are the colors for this somber season. This is a time of contemplating our faith, returning to God, and walking with Jesus in the last weeks of his life as he heads to the cross. It is also a time of joy, because we have been set free by the work of Jesus Christ to walk in abundant life with God. *Indicates: Please stand if you are able.

*Opening Prayer God of light and love, shine upon your people this day. Meet us in our brokenness, and heal our errant ways. Take from us our spirit of disobedience, And save us with your grace. Lead us into your truth, That we may live as children of light, And act as children of the Most High. Amen. Lenten Symbol: Bag of Coins Each week we will place on our altar a symbol from the last week of Jesus’ life. On Maundy Thursday (the Thursday before Easter), the removal of these symbols will be a part of the “stripping of the church” Tenebrae worship.

The powers of evil tried to defeat Jesus by entering into Judas and inciting him to betray Jesus for thirty pieces of silver. Despite evil intentions, God’s grace prevailed. This bag of coins represents the folly of evil and our gain through God’s gracious work in Jesus Christ. Time with Children
