“Connecting with Commuters” by John Horner, President & CEO One of the challenges and opportunities for Morgan Hill businesses and organizations is finding effective ways to connect with the thousands of professionals who live in our community but head out of town every morning to get to work. Recently we participated in the Silicon Valley Chambers Business Expo in Santa Clara (which was a terrific event by the way) at which both Rich Firato and I were surprised how many people approached us to ask questions about Morgan Hill - because they live here. These folks work to our North, but then come home every night to Morgan Hill. Most of them had very little knowledge about what is going on with entertainment, development and job prospects in Morgan Hill. The good news in this is that we have an abundance of very talented people across a wide range of skills and industries living among us. The challenge is how to make sure they know about opportunities for fun like the Friday Night Music Series, opportunities to get great products and services at local businesses, opportunities to have a voice in how the community continues to evolve through civic engagement, and opportunities to ditch the commute and grab one of the fascinating job opportunities within Morgan Hill. The majority of our local companies continue to prosper and expand, and they need the right talent to do so. Advertising wise, the Chamber of Commerce continues to allocate an increasing proportion of our advertising for major events like the Taste of Morgan Hill and Friday Night Music to social networking platforms like Facebook. We do know that many commuters use Facebook to connect to their family, friends and community and that makes it a good platform for reaching them. If your consumer facing business activities are not using these kinds of platforms, you might be missing out. Meanwhile, local print and electronic media continue to be an important piece of the advertising puzzle as well. Finally, as Chamber Members you have a terrific opportunity to get your business in front of these commuters by participating in the Friday Night Music Series. This is one event which runs all summer long and draws many of those commuters in as they end the work week ready to kick back and let off a little steam.

Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2015 Sets Ambitious Goal to Raise $25,000 for Stage Lighting System for Friday Night Music Series in June The Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2015 has moved into high gear with ambitious plans to raise $25,000 for a permanent, state-of-the-art stage lighting system for the Downtown Amphitheater at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center. Already, we’re nearly halfway to our goal, thanks to the generosity of early sponsors and donors, the hospitality of local restaurants, and the support of Morgan Hill residents! Among the criteria for each Leadership Morgan Hill class project is that it deliver tangible value to the community. That’s why our “Bright Idea” project has been embraced enthusiastically by the Chamber of Commerce, City of Morgan Hill and Leadership Morgan Hill Board. “This project is fantastic for our town,” says Rich Firato, Board Chair of the Chamber, which hosts the Friday Night Music Series. “It will bring an upscale experience to concert goers and performers for nighttime events at the amphitheater. Plus, it will streamline production of our live music program this summer, since we’ll no longer have the hassle of setting up and taking down temporary lighting each week.” Contributions at any level to the “Bright Idea” project by individuals, families, local businesses and civic groups will be pivotal to fulfilling our team’s “stretch goal” to reach our $25,000 target for installation early in Friday Night Music Series season, which kicks off on June 5. Recognition opportunities are available at the Bronze ($500-999), Silver ($1,000-2499), Gold ($2,5004,999) and Platinum ($5,000-plus) levels. Sponsors at every level will be featured in online, print, social media and event promotions throughout the fundraising campaign, and during the Friday Night Music Series. We’re incredibly grateful to the Persing Family for becoming our very first Platinum-level sponsor with their generous donation of $5,000. Bubbles Wine Bar has also come on board as a Gold sponsor, following successful kickoff fundraisers held to raise awareness and gather support for the project. In April, the Class of 2015 held two more family-friendly fundraisers at Jimmy P’s Pizza Factory (formerly Dutchman’s Pizza) and Mooyah. What’s next on the calendar? Our Silicon Valley Gives 2015 24-hour online day of giving, May 5, Midnight-11:59 p.m. You can support our “Bright Idea” project with a donation of $10 or more at: http://svgives.razoo.com/story/Leadership-Morgan-Hill-Class-Of-2015-Bright-Idea-Project Keep an eye out for upcoming events at http://www.leadershipmorganhill.org/our-bright-idea-events and “like” us on Facebook to track our progress at https://www.facebook.com/pages/LMH-Class-of-2015-BrightIdea-Project/992701364075117 For more information, visit http://www.leadershipmorganhill.org/about-the-lmh-class-of-2015-project or contact [email protected]. Friday Night Music Series Every Friday night the show starts at 6pm and runs through 9pm. Each week will feature opening acts from the youth of our community and acoustic performances from great local artists. Starting at 6:00pm, Music in Motion or Lana’s Dance Studio will grace the stage for a youthful 20 minute performance. At 6:30pm a local acoustic artist will perform another 20 minute opening set. Each week our headlining band will rock downtown Morgan Hill from 7-9pm. The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce will have a Wine and Beer tent and will be selling cold beer on tap and wine from a featured local winery to all of our patrons over 21 years of age. This family friendly atmosphere has continued to grow and prosper throughout the years and 2015 is sure to be one to remember. Bring your family and friends and get there early to get your spot. Our summer concert series has gone to another level over the past few years thanks to the overwhelming support from our local businesses. With all of our sponsor’s support this event has evolved into something the entire community can come out and enjoy year after year. Building off a successful 2014 that featured 11 weeks of great live music and dancing, an extra week has been added to reward the Morgan Hill community and this couldn’t have been possible without the support of the local businesses. This is the place to be on Friday nights in Morgan Hill, and it’s a great way to experience everything that Downtown Morgan Hill has to offer. July 3rd will be the only week that the Friday Night Music Series is dark this summer, making way for the July 3rd Street Dance in Downtown Morgan Hill featuring the band the Usual Suspects.
