A WORD from YOUR PULPIT SUPPLY COMMITTEE The year was 1850. The place was a simple house surrounded by acres of corn and cotton in a scarcely populated wilderness. It was another hot day in August, but it was not just an ordinary day in the shady, little grove of hickory trees. Led by God, eleven people joined together in worship and the church that would become known as First Baptist Church of Tupelo was birthed. For 165 years this church of great faith has firmly stood on Christ the solid Rock! We have been shepherded, and discipled, and led by men of God, lovingly known to us as our Pastors. As a people of deep commitment, we have enjoyed God’s blessings as we have humbly and prayerfully loved God in faithful worship, obedience, and surrender. Jesus has modeled a life of prayer for us and He has taught us, His disciples, how to pray. Each and every day we are to pray, praising God, magnifying His holiness, seeking Him and seeking to
have our hearts at one with His heart, His desires and His purposes. Continuing in this solid Godly heritage, we are earnestly praying with a deep desire and a request that God will guide us to the one He has chosen to be our Pastor. It is our prayer that God will bless and prosper His work for His Kingdom through us as a church body. Please join us as we pray for His amazing grace to prepare our hearts, beloved church family, to receive and accept His yet to be revealed will for this church, His church. So what about our hearts as a body of believers? Could it be that we have not fully prepared our hearts to receive the man God has for us? Bro. Gayle Alexander will be bringing a message Sunday evening, May 17, to help prepare our hearts to receive the pastor God has chosen for our church. Congratulations to our graduating class of 2015! It has been an awesome privilege getting to know them over the last two years. This has been a very close knit group, and they have been so much fun to be around. Lindsey and I pray that all of their future endeavors will be successful and full of happiness. I would like to encourage our church family at FBC to be in constant prayer for them as they take this giant leap in their lives. We have thirteen students in this class that will be spreading out all over the country. This class will have students attending seven different collegiate institutions and two branches of the United States Military (Army, Marines). This class consists of future Bulldogs, Rebels, Hogs, Indians, Lions, and Blue Raiders.

Serving/Mission Ministry Mothers’ Day offering for the Baptist Children’s Village A special love offering will be taken on Sunday, May 10 for the Baptist Children’s Village locations across the state. All money given goes directly to assist with needs of the children.
Current Mission Needs New Orleans Mission Journey June 6-11, 2015 Need 8-10 volunteers who will serve alongside IMPACT church on the west bank of New Orleans in Harvey, LA. Volunteers will lead in the children’s worship time on Sunday morning. The remaining time will be working alongside IMPACT church in the community with block parties, prayer walking, canvassing neighborhoods and serving the people of Harvey, LA. The team will be housed in a local hotel. The cost of the journey is
Thoughts on WORSHIP from Randy … This is a different world we live in. I am old enough to have seen cultures change, the way we “do church”. Our methods and the way we do things change, but our message and our God never change. He has always been and will be forever and ever…Alpha and Omega. I must tell you at the onset…I do not have all the answers as to how worship is to be done. I do know that our God loves us like no one else. How can I not worship Him? There is only one acceptable way to worship – that is through Jesus. “He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, and the punishment of our peace was upon Him and by His stripes we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) What took place on that day changed the world. His death and resurrection stirs our heart to worship. Worship is a part of my life. It is kind of like when the Bible says to “pray without ceasing.” We cannot go around with our eyes closed or be on our knees constantly. Most of us have jobs to fulfill, or we may be students, or we are raising children and on and on with responsibilities. But we can have a heart attitude of prayer. A prayer can be on our heart. There

Tokyo, Japan Mission Journey Retreat and Ministry in Tokyo July 11-19, 2015 Cost: $1,100.00; Maximum Team Size: 10 Passport Required. Must be valid at least six months after trip return date. If you do not have a passport you must have one in hand no later than June 15, 2015 in order to travel. Team will provide retreat for missionary families with emphasis on ministry to children and adults. Topics will include: 1) Marriage and Family Enrichment, 2) Financial Management. Supporting Ministry In the April edition of The Evangel, the church was updated on the current financial
are too many times when I do not have an attitude of prayer, and there are times that I am not worshipping the Lord. There are life situations that distract me. Worship is an overflow of our lives inspired by a great God, the Lord Jesus Christ. We can have a heart of worship. I am a proud Grandad. It’s like starting all over with your own kids. There is nothing like it when that grandchild crawls up in my lap and lets me read that special book. That special time with my grandchild thrills my soul. They love that time with their granddad, and I enjoy it more than can be expressed. Each day I spend time with the Lord. It is during this time that I read the word of God and pray. I have to remind myself from time to time to not take this privilege lightly. This book, the Bible is God’s Word…God’s Word to me. You and I can sit down and read and listen to the God of the universe, the God of all creation, the One who spoke it all into existence, the One who allowed His Son to die and rise from the dead. This book is His holy Word to my heart. We call it our “quiet time” or “time alone with God”. I can sit at the feet of a Holy God and listen to Him speak. Like my grandchildren climb in my lap, I can climb in His lap or sit at

Each child and each family we serve have very specific needs, therefore, we develop individual plans of care for them that will help them work toward and reach goals. This ministry focuses on the spiritual, academic, family, and emotional needs for every child they serve on seven residential campuses and for every family that they serve through non-residential services. The Baptist Children’s Village relies totally on the generous gifts from God’s people to provide for this ministry. Reading through the Bible Chronologically… As we continue to look at what the Bible says about itself, I want us to take a look at 1 Thessalonians 2:13. “And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.” The people in the church at Thessalonica had the right attitude toward the Word of God. They did not receive it as just as words of men but they understood it was the Word of God. We must never take God’s Word for granted. We have to accept it, welcome it as His Holy Word. When we accept it as His Holy Word, we need to apply it like those in Thessalonica did. Paul could see that the Word was at work in those believers. It seems they applied it to their lives and it made an impact on them as believers. As a “living and active” Word, it has power in our lives. It has power to transform who we are, how we think, how we live, how we relate to others, how we pray, how we use our money, how we grow in faith and how we walk through times of trial or testing. Are you “receiving” the Word? Do you welcome the daily diet of this Word? I hope so. Ask God to give you the desire to receive what He wants to teach you through His Word and to accept or welcome the words of the Scripture that it will transform you and all of us as we grow to be more like Jesus. Nantahala and Ocoee Rivers in North Carolina
May 29-31 We will leave from FBC around 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29. We will run the Nantahala on Saturday and the Ocoee on Sunday morning and return to Tupelo on Sunday evening. There will be opportunities on Saturday for other activities such as mountain biking, rope course, hiking, horseback riding, and taking a nap, among others. The cost will be $100 per person which includes transportation, rafting on both rivers, and cabin rental. Meals (7) and other activities will be extra. Hosting provides the opportunity for orphans from Taiwan to experience the love of a family while experiencing the American way of life. They are looking for up to 8 families who are willing to open their heart and home to children ages 7 to 10 for two weeks—July 18 through August 1, 2015. Families will fill out a free application and partake in a free-mini home study conducted by New Beginnings. Families should raise $3,000 to cover travel expenses and other necessities for each child. The children will be accompanied by a translator.
