Come, Follow Me Seeing All the People:

N.T. Wright in his work, Surprised by Hope: Rethinking Heaven, the Resurrection, and the Mission of the Church shares that “resurrection is the beginning of God's new project not to snatch people away from earth to heaven, but to colonize earth with the life of heaven. That, after all, is what the Lord's Prayer is about.” Lent is to remind us of the refining work God’s Spirit. The Lenten journey begins with the ashes of burnt palms on Ash Wednesday to signify how our embrace of Jesus can turn quickly to failing him, like Peter in his three-fold denial. Today, as we wave palms and sing of the saving grace of Jesus, we also inch closer to our part in the Cross. Yet, today’s reflection about Peter reminds us that with grace and the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to join Jesus’ saving work in the world. How is Christ calling you past weaknesses into the power of the Holy Spirit? Where does your bold witness to an amazing Savior need to be proclaimed? As you move through Holy Week, make it your prayer to be filled with God’s Spirit so that you may boldly proclaim Jesus Christ. In doing so, may the blessings of Easter bring heaven near. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Take your burdens to the cross this Lent. Throughout the season, a wooden cross will stand in the courtyard (near the glass doors). You are invited to write your “burden” on a card and tie it to the cross. Cards can be found in baskets throughout the church. On Easter Sunday, please bring fresh cut flowers. We will cover the cross with flowers as a symbol of the resurrection and hope. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Checkout EasterInTheBurg.com for our Lenten and Easter Worship opportunities.

April 13-14, 2019 Palm Sunday

Welcome to Fredericksburg United Methodist Church. We are glad you are here. Please let us know that you were here by filling out the perforated edge of this worship program and place it in the offering basket. Today, we continue our Lenten Series as part of our “See All the People” focus. The series is called “Come, Follow Me,” and it is focused on Christian discipleship using the Apostle Peter as our guide. This Palm Sunday, Pastor Gina Anderson-Cloud will be preaching a sermon titled, “Proclaiming.” We hope that you will hear Jesus’ call to follow more closely during this important time. Church Council members will be handing out a devotional book today at the services. You are invited to use this mediation guide for the next seven days to connect with Jesus as He traveled through the cities and villages. We are all called to See All the People each day and connect in relationship and love. We hope you will join us for Holy Week services: Maundy Thursday at 7:30 pm; Good Friday at 7:30 pm; Holy Saturday at 5:00 pm and Easter Sunday at 8:00, 9:30 or 11:00. Please note the change in start time for the first two services on Easter Sunday.
