MESSAGE Maturing in Jesus (Colossians 1:21-2:7) Jason Webb (Senior Pastor) | September 13-14, 2014 | No. 6902 Paul says that the goal of The Jesus Life is that we would be “fully mature in Christ” (1:28). That sounds nice, but it’s hard because life throws a lot at us. It’s easy to give up along the way or just settle for “what is”. So how do we actually see that maturity take place? How do we build a life in Christ that is, as Paul says, “established and firm”?
1) __________________________________________ your identity (1:21-23, 25). • Our problem: We think that Jesus and the church are here to ______________________ us. • Our reality: We are here to ______________________________________ Jesus and the church (Philippians 2:5-7, Romans 6:22).
2) __________________________________________ your circumstances (1:24). • They ______________________ you intimately to Christ (1:24, 27b, Acts 9:4, Romans 8:31-39, John 15:18-25, 16:19-33).
• They are for the _______________________ of others (1:24, Acts 9:15-16, Hebrews 11:36-12:1, 2 Corinthians 12:7b-10).
3) __________________________________________ your energy (1:28-2:2). • We must reveal _________________________ to people (1:25-28; Acts 9:15, Ephesians 4:11-13). • We must strenuously _________________________ for people (1:29-2:2).
