I.

Vision, Mission and Values

Vision: The preservation of Mt. Lebanon as a vibrant community with character. Mission: To build, nurture and responsibly manage a permanent fund that sustains and enhances the quality of life in Mt. Lebanon. Values: Family, Education, Community, Diversity, Nature, Faith and Health. II.

Position within the Community – Long Term Vision

The Board of Directors established and agreed upon the following attributes that will represent successful positioning of the Endowment in the community. Collectively, these characteristics describe how the organization wishes to be perceived. By 2017, the Mt. Lebanon Community Endowment will be known as an organization that is: • • • • • • • •

Financially sound with a multi-million dollar fund balance; A steward of the community, unbiased in its support; A top choice for individual donors and local non-profit organizations; Making a difference in Mt. Lebanon; Measured by the success of its grantees and partners; The catalyst behind several important projects; Organized and knowledgeable; and, Unique in the region – a key differentiator among our peer communities.

The Board also stressed the importance of positioning the Endowment as an independent thought leader in the community. The Endowment strives to be a resource, grantor and mentor to the local non-profit community, not a competitor. As such, quickly achieving critical mass (i.e. a significant fund balance), and, at all times, being thoughtful and unbiased in its actions is paramount to the Endowment’s success. III.

Summary of Goals

By 2017, Mt. Lebanon Community Endowment will have achieved the following: Goal 1: Fundraising: Build a $3-5 million endowment. Goal 2: Marketing: Increase the visibility MLCE in the community, as evidenced by an increase in PR and community involvement activities. Goal 3: Operations: Build infrastructure so that MLCE achieves National Standards Compliance with the Community Foundations National Standards Board. Goal 4: Organizational Conduct: Establish policies and practices that ensure that the organization maintains a high level of integrity. Goal 5: Grant Making: Define and understand the specific needs of Mt. Lebanon’s community based organizations.
