DO YOU WANT TO SERVE AT CHURCH BUT LIFE IS JUST SO BUSY! You can serve as a greeter, once a month for your own service. If you are able to arrive about 20 minutes before your service, say hello and smile, and willing to show newcomers how to navigate the building, we need you. We will train you. Please contact Kitti Mann at
[email protected] or 540-891-1671 to volunteer. WONDER IF I CAN SERVE AS AN USHER? We need ushers for the 11:00 service. Ushers serve a very important part of the worship service. KIDS WITH PURPOSE 2017 Our children’s mission program, Kids With Purpose, is now meeting on Wednesdays evenings from 6:30 until 7:30 in lower level. Children in grades K through 5 tie Biblical learning to hands on mission work. Rachel Burner is our program director. You do not have to attend every week and can “come when you can.”
February 18/19, 2017 ASH WEDNESDAY, MARCH 1 Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lenten season.
VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL 2017 VBS 2017 is right around the corner! This year we are following Paul's journey through Rome. FUMC will become ancient Rome during the week of June 26 – 30 from 9:00 – 12:00. As always, we need a ton of helpful hands to make VBS the wonderful success that it is. How is God calling you to help? We need musicians, games leaders, tribe leaders for each age group, and shop keepers in the areas of: Grammaticus shop, toga shop, carpentry shop, architecture shop, metal working shop, leather working shop, scribe shop, and wreath making shop. Please email our VBS director, Jillian Murray at:
[email protected] for more information or to sign up to volunteer. WESTVIEW ON THE JAMES SCHOLARSHIP Once again this year the Wayfarers Sunday School class and the United Methodist Men would like to offer children from FUMC the opportunity to attend Camp Westview! They will be offering two scholarships for young people ages 7 – 17. If you are interested, please pick up an application from the church office, the children’s ministry office, or the youth ministry office and return it to Carol Knott. The deadline for applications is Sunday, March 19, 2017. Scholarship recipients will be asked to write about their experiences at Westview on the James to be shared with the church family upon return. To find out more about Camp Westview on the James, visit www.westviewonthejames.org. ROTATION STATION The children in Rotation Station (grades 2 – 5) have finished their unit on Jesus’ baptism. The children saw that baptism is a gift from God, given to us in love, and that our acceptance of that gift is our acknowledgment of God’s love for us and our place in God’s family. Thank you to those who volunteered to make this series come to life: Deanna Grider (storytelling), Lindsay Sobota (games), Stacy Bywaters (science), Michelle Wagaman (art), Sandy Howson (2nd grade), Staci Noakes (3rd grade), BJ Gibson (4th grade), and Tracy Damron (5th grade). We have just started a unit on “The Lord’s Supper.” There are still a couple of volunteer openings for our upcoming Easter unit which will run from March 19 – April 30, but not on Palm Sunday or Easter. We still need leaders for art, games, music, media, and 5th grade. Contact Shannon Bolick at
