These young Mustangs not only did their four required maneuvers they also did much more. They crossed a tarp, were saddled and much more. These young trainers had done a fantastic job with them. The fillies were then auctioned off to the highest bidder. Cassidy Calhoun and Danika Nageli family’s both purchased their fillies. Stacey Brittenham, of Rock Springs bought Mandy Eyre’s filly Lou. Savannah’s filly Juno went to the Honor Farm in Riverton, to finish her training and will make someone a very nice horse! Trish Calhoun, Cassidy’s mom said, “This has been a very rewarding experience for these young trainers. They all learn a lot about the Mustangs and found them to be very willing learners.” The awards, prize money and help with putting the Youth & Mustang event on, was made possible by the Mustang Heritage Foundation in partnership with the BLM and T.I.P. Trainer Lynn Huckaby. The Mustang Versatility Committee looks forward to doing this again next year!!!

The Youth and Mustang Challenge in Wyoming was hosted by the Mustang Versatility of Southwest Wyoming in partnership with Mustang Heritage Foundation. Youth trainers between the ages of 12 and 16 picked up their BLM Mustangs in mid-July. They were picked up at the Rock Springs Wild Horse and Burro holding facility and all were from the Salt Wells Herd Management Area. They had 60 days to train their horses to lead, pick-up all four feet, back-up and load in a trailer. They were then invited to come back and show their yearling Mustangs at the last All Breed Series Trail Competition September 12, 2015 in Rock Springs, Wyoming at the Events Complex Indoor Arena. The young trainers Cassidy Calhoun, Savannah Maughan, Danika Nageli, (all from Utah), and Mandy Eyre, (Mountain View, WY were all beaming as the brought their young fillies into the arena. After each of them showcased their horses for the judges they were presented their placing.
