Greetings Dear Friends! I hope you are working your way through our GOD’sText Readings. If not, don’t feel badly, and don’t delay! You can pick up anytime, anywhere! If you are and you have questions, right them down, give me a call, bring them to a class! We all have them, and together we can explore them! The following is an excerpt from our Lenten Devotional Book written by Reed Lessing entitled: “I Have Heard the Cries of My People”. Read on and may the Spirit of God dwell within you richly! BASED ON EXODUS 20:1-6 Let’s spell out F-I-R-S-T to see how we can be more intentional about keeping the first commandment. Finances—The Bible says, “Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops” (Prov 3:9). In America, we are consumed with consuming. To give you perspective, in 1980 30% of all income was spent on luxuries, or about 350 billion dollars. In the last 30 years that figure is up to 38%, or about 500 billion dollars on “fun.” What about me? How do I spend my money? Interests—St. Paul writes, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God” (1 Cor 10:31). Are my hobbies and recreational activities God-pleasing? What sorts of books and magazines do I like? Relationships—Scripture says, “Do not be misled: Bad company corrupts good character” (1 Cor 15:33). We become like the people we spend the most time with. Who are my friends? What are their priorities in life? Schedule—The apostle Paul writes, “Make the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil” (Eph 5:16). What does my use of time say about my priorities? Trouble—God invites us, “Call upon me in the day of trouble. I will deliver you, and you will honor me” (Ps 50:15). Whom do I go to when I am devastated, depressed or caught in a horrific mess? Jesus attaches a great promise for us when we put him F-I-R-S-T. “Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well” (Mt 6:33). Lord Jesus, you are the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything you might be first (Col 1:18). Make this true for me. Amen.

Honest Confession of Sin
Notes from Our Associate Pastor
It is common, sometimes even with little reflection, for Christians to talk about believing in Jesus as Savior and Lord. It is not so common to acknowledge one’s real need for a Savior: without Christ, sin is an overpowering master of one’s life. As a penitential season of the church, Lent provides a time for honest confession of sin. We can learn from King David who honesty faced the damnable nature of sin and turned to God’s mercy as his only hope of forgiveness: “Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the LORD’-and you forgave the guilt of my sin” (Psalm 32:5). David describes his sins with three different words in Hebrew which is translated as sin, iniquity, and transgression. The words help us to acknowledge the relationship that exists between God and people. David was agonizingly aware that his relationship to God was not right. He admits three areas where he has promoted improper relationships. First, he calls his wrongdoing a failure. We also fail to live up to the standards God established in His commandments. With David we admit that in us dwells no good thing (not only do I commit sins; I am by nature a sinner). We daily fail to obey God’s will, insisting on our own will which is evil. Secondly, David admits perversion. He has reversed the proper roles of God and humanity by trying to force God into doing and accepting his desires (to place my will above God’s will is idolatry of self). Making self the boss, the creator, rather than the receiver and subordinate is perversion. How often do we try to manipulate God to our advantage, trying to exploit God in our false pride and sense of power? We think we can do what we want with our lives, our possessions, our bodies, our sexuality, our souls, claiming that we are masters of ourselves and our fate. Other times we let someone or someone else rule us and determine our thoughts, conduct and life instead of God. We must daily confess with David this twisting around of the first and greatest commandment--having no other gods. Thirdly, David confesses rebellion, called transgression, stepping across the line of proper authority. Rebellion is willfully fighting against God, His commandments, against living out our part of the covenant with God. As rebels we are unfaithful, disloyal traitors. Instead of keeping the treaty, we bargain with God to play by our rules. It is time for repentance. We confess we have failed, we have perverted, we have rebelled. Our only recourse is to plead guilty and place ourselves at the mercy of God. In contrast to our treachery, God is faithful. We can trust God’s mercy. “God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Where there is confession, there is forgiveness. Where there is forgiveness, there is the blessing of eternal life. Where there is eternal life there is a newness of life, purpose and joy lived for Christ. Trusting Jesus for forgiveness,

Christ Crucified
Worship and Music Notes
“How to put Him to death?” This is the somber (yet glorious!) theme Of Holy Week. In lengthy Bible readings, we shall hear the sacred record—in great detail—of how they put Him to death. “Christ Crucified.” That is the word for the days leading up to Good Friday and preceding Easter. Somehow the worshiping church has always made this sacred story something glorious instead of tragic. Musical composers like J. S. Bach have written Lenten chorales and passion music that lift us to the heights of worship instead of holding us down in the sentimental feeling of sorrow and tears. That must be the spirit of our songs today. “Christ Crucified!”—our glorious theme and the content of our message, because at the cross we shall see again rescue, deliverance, healing, and forgiveness. We shall see the Royal Son, though crowned with thorns, crowned nevertheless. Salvation, life, and the very things that spell eternity are hammered out in His crucifixion. So sing the songs firmly, with full vowels and undergirding breath. The Lamb of God leads the way, and victory is in the air!
Thus, with thirty years accomplished, He went forth from Nazareth, Destined, dedicated, willing, Did His work, and met His death; Like a lamb He humbly yielded On the cross His dying breath. Faithful cross, true sign of triumph, Be for all the noblest tree; None in foliage, none in blossom, None in fruit thine equal be; Symbol of the world’s redemption, For the weight that hung on thee! LSB 454:3-4 Prayer: Heavenly Father, As You sent forth Your Son as the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, so send us forth as Your people, without fear or worry, to do Your will. On April 8th the LWML ladies from Trinity will be going to Good Shepherd to meet with the ladies there. Pastor Weise will be leading a devotion at 2:30. The Good Shepherd LWML has become very small so by joining with them once a year we are able to share with them. We will be bringing treats and coffee. All ladies of Trinity are invited to join us. We will car pool from the church. Watch the bulletin for the time. This year the Trinity LWML ladies will be joining with other churches in our area for a Regional LWML Rally. The rally will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church on May 4th. Registration begins at 9:30. We will car pool from the church. The Rally will highlight a dynamic speaker, Joy Markus. Joy was born and raised in Kuwait. She converted to Christianity at great risk to herself and family. At present Joy works with the POBLO Mission in the United States. Joy’s presentation will help us learn to witness to the evergrowing Muslim population in Central Minnesota. You are welcome to come just for the speaker. Reservations need to be made for lunch. You may make your reservation with Judy in the office or Connie Mooney, LWML president. The cost of registration and lunch is $7.00. Please plan to attend this event.
Prayer Shawl Ministry – Did you know that individuals of our congregation knit or crochet prayer shawls? As the shawl is crafted, the individual infuses it with thoughts and prayers for comfort, healing and the embrace of God’s love for the receiver. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about paintball equipment and strategy and experience a variety of paintball games. Contribution Recorders/ Counters This faithful group meets each Monday morning to count and record the offerings. The system is quite detailed as each gift must be recorded in the category the giver prefers. Also, the deposits must be carefully noted and taken to the bank each week.
This very dedicated group includes: Kim Reberg, (Lead) Sandra Busche, Teresa Fragodt, Scott Lazer, Karen Petron-Broda, Judy Thompson, and Delores Volkers. Marge Haase comes in each week, to record the gifts into the computer program so that your yearly statements reflect your generous giving.
