Words from Our Pastor– Bob Mitchell November 2018

Important to Note:  Men’s Tailgate Party and Clothing Drive  Of ice closed Thanksgiving Day and Friday after  Baptisms

I knew that someday I would have to write this ar cle. I knew that someday God would give me the confirmaon in my spirit that my me of leadership as Senior Pastor would be drawing to a close. He would be leading me into a different area of His kingdom field, and He would be s rring someone else to enter into the process of being called to be the Senior Pastor of this beloved church. This decision did not come quickly or easily. There was a great deal of personal prayer and reflec on before I opened up to some trusted and wise people, to ask for their input. Having received basic confirma on from them, I spoke with the board of elders for their counsel. Their consensus was that if I am sensing that God is moving me toward transi on,

they would be willing to concur. I am adamant that this transi on should not happen abruptly. This should be a slow and measured process that we as leaders commit to in this season. Accordingly, Lincoln’s leadership is taking deliberate, measured steps to begin a process to determine the process. Doublespeak you say? Not really. Our new denomina on gives the elder board wide la tude in determining how the church should proceed in searching for its next pastor. So we are in the process of determining how we shall go forward.

Volume 6, Issue 11

I earnestly believe that a fresh voice is needed to capture the poten al of expanded ministry that our new facili es will give us. I also believe that a new and fresh voice will help in our efforts to a ract younger families to join our fantas c fellowship of stable, mature believers. I implore you to place this transi on near the top of your prayer concerns. Ask God to guide and direct us in the process. And know that it will be my privilege to connue to pastor here this month…and next month, and the month a er that… and the month a er that… and…. well, let’s ac vely seek God’s guidance in terms of ming. With much love for you, I am (s ll), Your Pastor, Bob

Jon Hathorn - Pastor of Church Ministries In the 1950’s a group of people decided to start a church on the corner of Douglas and Ge ysburg. A commitment to worship and love people was embarked on. Stockton is a much different place, and so is the

the Village Theatre, or having all you can eat at Smorgy Boys or Ole Frijole. Lincoln Pres has changed also. The actual address used to be on Ge ysburg Place and now it is on Douglas Road. In rooms where we used to use overhead projects and transparency Con nued on page 2

Pastor Fred Jantz Do you know that me flies? Be engaged and work hard, and me does pass quickly. It was 10 years ago that Kathy and I had a meal with Pastor Bob and Trish. He had heard from Ma that I was re ring again and wondered if I was looking for a part me role at a church. Well, I was, but LPC was not on the list. I did have a full me offer, but declined that possibility. I remember driving to the parking lot of LPC and praying for the Lord to direct my path. Well, he did and I am ready to celebrate almost 10

years here. These have been years of joy and love and great rela onships. Thank you for welcoming me into your lives. You are so kind and gracious. I have been blessed. In previous ar cles I had menoned that I wanted to rere re at the end of this year. So, we have been moving in that direc on. People even wanted to plan a "Thank Fred" event. Sounded like lots of fun. Well, with the building program so far behind schedule and Pastor Bob thinking that a transi on away from LPC is in the works......I have done some soul searching. Lord, what is best for me and

this local church? So, in the interest of some con nuity while so much change has and is taking place, I have asked that the farewell “Thank Fred” event be cancelled. Not sure what the Lord has in mind, but it seems clear that I should be here a li le longer. The Lord loves the local church and so do I.

“It was 10 years ago that Kathy and I had a meal with Pastor Bob and Trish…….”

Join me in serious prayer as we pray to the Lord for wisdom and unity during these days of transi on. He is faithful to us and we will be faithful to Him. Pastor Fred

Session Responds to Leadership Transition News On Sunday, October 21, 2018, Pastor Bob announced during both services that he will begin a transi on process of leadership here at Lincoln. Your Session stands united and supports Pastor Bob’s decision. Pastor Bob has been Senior Pastor/Head of Staff since 1992 and for many of us, he has been the only Senior Pastor we have ever known at Lincoln. We wish him much success with his book and we are excited for Pastor Bob as he journeys into the next chapter of his ministry. When the me comes for full transfer of leadership, we will celebrate and honor Pastor Bob.

Session became aware of Pastor Bob’s decision in September. Session has met with a representa ve from our local ECO Presbytery to discuss the pastoral search process, meline and other procedural decisions that will need to be made. Since most of us have not par cipated in this type of process before, a “slow and measured” approach will be prudent. Session commits to keep you updated of the benchmarks within the process as the average search me for a new pastor is approximately 18 months.

pray for the person God has as Lincoln’s next pastor that they prepare their heart for the call to lead Lincoln. Pray for Session to have discernment, wisdom, pa ence and unity during the search process. Pray for Pastor Bob and his transi on. Pray for our congrega on that this will be a me of unity and support. We know God loves Lincoln and this knowledge allows us to posi vely an cipate what He has next for our church.

As we all go through the me of transi on, we ask that you be in con nual prayer. Please
