OLMC School Council Meeting Minutes Monday, February 13 Members Present: Sister Maria Benedicta, Tim Fletcher, Jim Nies, Joe Lustig, Dawn Street, Sandra Harrington, Abby Ferrettie, Jonathon Titus, Todd Darland, Trisha Pecoraro Also: Rita Decline, Elyse Cloran

The School Council met on February 13th. We went over the following topics:

Principal’s Report – Sister Maria Benedicta • Catholic Schools week last week. Very Busy. Student Council spoke and masses and materials available after all Masses include o Coffee with the Council Tuesday o Open House Weds o 5th Grade Deanery-wide Vocation Mass at STGCH o Faith Rally Thursday – included Confessions (new this year) o Family Ice Skating on Sunday – attended by 20 to 30th families • CYO Music Contest at Bishop Chatard – several winners for OLMC • Midterms for 3rd quarter go home Wednesday • Professional Development on Thursday (1/2 day of school) for CPR renewal • Feb 22nd Starts of ISTEP Vice Principal’s Report – Tim Fletcher •





Science Curriculum Adoption year (every 6 years) Teachers to evaluate science materials o Session on how to teach evolution in a Catholic School o Discussed need for parent resources on discussing evolution Ann Anzalone visiting school March 8th o Learning with Brain in Mind Understanding how Student Learn Best o Expert on how children learn based on her brain research. o The Teachers Teacher o Also an evening sessions at 7pm Safety Update: Several Staff Members and Parish Priests will be ALICE training

PTO Report – Elyse Cloran • Good turnout of volunteers • Movie night split 3/4th from older grades • PTO has made effort to increase service opportunities for students • PTO nominations for next year are opening soon • Fundraising: o Primarily SCRIP, ~67% of families participating, avoids fatiguing community o Also looking at other opportunities in community – Kroger, Chik-Fil-A, Freddies, et al

All Parish Council Update – Trish Pecoraro • Renovation Update: o Much discussion on colors – included services of 4 interior decorator o If not complete by Easter – 1st Communion • Hiring o Parish Secretary o Merciful Help Center Staff • Staff Appreciation lunch • Community Care day in Anderson – 800 served • Assessing needs in growing number of Nursing Homes et al in area • Fruitful Harvest: goal met and exceeded. • The Cross and The Light promotion School Marketing Discussion – Rita DeKlyen • Discussion of Brand communication via current materials: strengths and weaknesses • Discussion of Plan / Marketing calendar Coffee with Council Event Report • Attendance – 17 signed, estimate 20 to 25 attending • Very positive feedback • Will continue to use “Coffee with Council” • Researching best time for future events (morning, evening…) • Next Sessions: o March - Ann Anzalone, How Children Learn o May – Dr. Deanne Harvey, Anxiety

Council President Update • Increases in followers at various social media sites (Facebook pages et al) • School Calendar: discussing council meeting dates • Add Meeting Expectations to Council Applications School Registration Update • Won’t have full picture until end of February • Sibling rate is higher than usual

STEM Research Opportunity • A group of OLMC School staff (VP, Science Teacher) attend conference at Purdue w/ Buzz Aldrin • Discussion of how to promote STEM at OLMC – STEM night ... • Could the council research how to run a STEM night? Mission Effectiveness to consider. Charter Review • Discussed Appendix A.

Committee Updates • Technology – Jim Nies o Tim has been collecting LMS information

Meeting Updates: • Voted to move date of May meeting to May 16 after the all councils meeting. • All Council Meeting May 16, 7 pm to 8 pm • School Council Meeting May 16, 8 pm to 9 pm Closing Prayer: Video Clip:
