Order of Worship Sunday, May 8, 2016

Welcome Prepare Your Hearts Call to Worship Leader: Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” People: He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” Leader: I will tell of the decree: The LORD said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.” People: Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. Psalm 2

Prayer of Adoration We worship God through singing not only because God commands it but also because he delights in it, and as we do so his truth is driven deeper into our hearts.

Worship through Music Confession of Sin – Elder Charlie Gault Leader: You have commanded us to clothe ourselves with humility toward one another, for you oppose the proud but give grace to the humble. Forgive us our pride. People: You have commanded us to cast all our anxieties on you, because you care for us. Forgive us for doubting your goodness. Liturgy continues on next page 1

Leader:

You have commanded us to be sober-minded and watchful, for our adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. People: We are to resist him, standing firm in our faith. Forgive us for our presumption. (Silent confession of sin.) Assurance of God’s Forgiveness Leader: Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool. People: We praise you, the God of all grace, for you have called us to your eternal glory in Christ. Restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish us. To you be the dominion forever and ever. Amen. Based on 1 Peter 5:5-11 and Isaiah 1:18

Congregational Prayer – Elder Charlie Gault Worship through Music Worship through Giving – Deacon Bob Adams If you are visiting with us, please do not feel any obligation to give. Children may be taken to Preschoolers’ Worship (ages 3-5) or Primary Worship (Kindergarten - 1st grade) at this time. Worship through the Word Proclaimed – Pastor Marc Swan Text: Revelation 2:18-29 Series: Revelation: Christ’s Letters to His Church Title: The Church That Was On the Right Side Of History Worship through Communion Grace Church welcomes all baptized Christians who forsake their sin, trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and fellowship with congregations that proclaim the gospel to receive Communion with us.

Profession of Faith Leader: I will not fear, for you are with me; I will not be dismayed, for you are my God. You will strengthen me and help me; you will uphold me with your righteous right hand. People: For you are the LORD my God, who takes hold of my right hand and says to me, “Do not fear; I will help you. Leader: This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases People: His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Revelation 2:18-29 18

“And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: ‘The words of the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and whose feet are like burnished bronze. 19 “‘I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter works exceed the first. 20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols. 21 I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality. 22 Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works, 23 and I will strike her children dead. And all the churches will know that I am he who searches mind and heart, and I will give to each of you according to your works. 24 But to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some call the deep things of Satan, to you I say, I do not lay on you any other burden. 25 Only hold fast what you have until I come. 26 The one who conquers and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations, 27 and he will rule them with a rod of iron, as when earthen pots are broken in pieces, even as I myself have received authority from my Father. 28 And I will give him the morning star. 29 He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’ ESV Reader: This is the Word of the Lord. People: Thanks be to God!

Communion Prayers A Prayer for Those Communing Lord Jesus, grant that I may see in You the fulfillment of all my need and may turn from every false satisfaction to feed on You, the true and living bread. Enable me to lay aside the sin that clings so closely and to run with perseverance the race set before me, looking to You the pioneer and perfecter of my faith. Amen.

A Prayer for Those Not Communing Prayer for Those Searching for Truth: Lord Jesus, You claim to be the way, the truth, and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following You as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me, and open me to the reality of who You are. Give me an understanding of You that is coherent, convincing, 3 and that leads to the life You promise. Amen.
