Backstage: Jesus: A Year of Obscurity T-Shirts, Souvenir Programs, & 8x10 Glossies! (John 2:1222)—It’s a funny thing how religion, which should be a benefit to humanity, so often becomes a point of contention. While the reasons are surely many, one in particular is that humanity often makes religion a tool to serve their own purposes, such as political power, financial gain, or popularity. Jesus observed how, within the Judaism of his day, the true and proper worship of God had been hijacked for personal purposes. This angered him then, and we should take care that we don’t venture into those same waters now. How do we strive to keep the worship of God and the work of his Kingdom safe from human and worldly pursuits?

happening now Worship Ministries Search Task Force Report: Presentation of candidate for Pastor of Worship Ministries—After two and a half years of reviewing resumes, interviewing potential candidates and with much prayer and careful consideration, the Search Task Force has invited Bart Morrison to visit UBC TODAY, February 10, in view of a call as Pastor of Worship Ministries. Bart will lead our 9:30 worship service and participate in the 11:00 service. At 3:00 today, the Search Task Force will host a forum in the chapel where UBC members can hear from both the candidate and the Task Force, ask questions and, at the end of the forum, vote on whether or not to extend a call to the candidate to join the UBC Staff. Please be on hand for this important step in the life of our church family.
