■ WELCOME TO HOLY SPIRIT EPISCOPAL CHURCH

ADULT INQUIRERS CLASS—Want to know more about The Episcopal Church? Have you been attending here and wondering about becoming a member? Do you have questions about why we do what we do, how we live out our spirituality, or any number of other things you may be thinking about as you experience this parish – then this is the class for you! Whether you are brand new or several months or years into your journey here, we invite you to join Rev. Terri between services from 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. on Oct. 22, 29, and Nov. 5 in the Guild Room (just off the Parish Hall and Kitchen) for what is always a lively discussion. We will use a small but enlightening book entitled, “A People Called Episcopalians – A brief introduction to our way of life” by John H. Westerhoff with Sharon Ely Pearson. You are welcome to join in the discussion!

Our Parish Life

THE CENTERING PRAYER GROUP, led by Willie Hoffer, meets on the third Tuesday of each month, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Guild Room. That will be Tuesday, November 21, next month. Centering Prayer is a meditation process that invites us to enter an inner sacred space to quiet our minds, open our hearts and take rest in the Love of God. You will be gently led into the silence. No experience needed! If you have questions, please call Willie Hoffer at 541-815-9609.

OUR CHURCH’S ANNUAL STEWARDSHIP APPEAL is underway. This morning’s speakers about Stewardship are Sue LaRose at the 8 a.m. service and Barbara Hosier at the 10:15 a.m. service. OUR STEWARDSHIP INGATHERING will take place at both services on November 5. Please give your pledge prayerful consideration. Pledge cards will be mailed out this week with the second stewardship mailing. COPIES OF THE APPROVED VESTRY MINUTES are available at the back of the church in the literature rack, by the Vestry bulletin board in the parish hall, and on the church website, www.holyspiritmissoula.org. A copy of the approved financial statement is posted on the Vestry bulletin board and is available from the church office by request. Once again it’s time to produce NOMINEES FOR VESTRY. If the time is right for you to lend your expertise to help guide our parish, please let Rev. Terri know by November 22. Here are the requirements to serve as a Vestry member: 1. Be confirmed or received in The Episcopal Church. 2. Have a demonstrated history of participation in the life of the church. 3. Be a regular communicant. 4. Contribute to the financial support of the church. 5. Have been an Episcopalian for at least two years. 6. Be willing to attend monthly Vestry meetings and special meetings as required. 7. Be prepared to serve on Vestry ministries. 8. Be prepared to count Sunday offerings periodically.

Prayer Flags REMEMBERING THOSE WHO HAVE DIED—Continuing this Sunday, you will have the opportunity to create a PRAYER FLAG, or a number of prayer flags, in honor of loved ones who have passed away. A table and supplies will be set up in the parish hall (and other places around the church) and up until All Saints’ Sunday, November 5th, you can write your loved one’s name on a flag, draw a picture, write a poem, describe a memory—anything you like. Use as many flags as you wish to remember as many people (or pets) as you wish. On All Saints’ Sunday, November 5, our flags of remembrance will decorate the sanctuary.

Compline Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. – Matthew 5:4 You are invited to COMPLINE on Sunday evening, November 5, when we will “Pray our Good-byes.” We will remember those parishioners who have died over the past year, those remembered on All Saints’ prayer flags, or those you might like to remember that evening. The Holy Spirit Choir will chant John Tavener’s Funeral Ikos. Compline begins at 8 p.m. (the church will be open beginning at 7:30 p.m.). If you would like to be a reader of those being remembered, please reach out to Margaret Watson ([email protected]) or Keith Kuhn ([email protected]).

Holiday Market ANNUAL RAFFLE AND SILENT AUCTION ITEMS DEBUT THIS SUNDAY. Be sure to come to the parish hall after church today to see the incredible items for this year’s raffle and silent auction. Raffle tickets go on sale today, and you can start your bidding on the silent auction items. Once again, members of Holy Spirit have been extremely generous in donating raffle and auction items—all to go home with their lucky new owners on Sunday, November 12. SIGN-UP SHEETS FOR THE VARIOUS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES during Market Week (November 6-11) will also be available. How can you help? Perhaps with a crock-pot of soup for lunch? Setting up displays? Working on sale days? Cashiering? Bagging items? Visiting with guests? Whatever your comfort level, we promise you a great time sharing the camaraderie and joy Market Week provides. If you’re new to Holy Spirit, or have never been involved with the Holiday Market, this is the perfect time to ask questions and join the fun. Please start saving your recyclable plastic bags, too. There never seem to be enough for everyone’s purchases once the sale begins on Friday, November 10. Pick up some Holiday Market bookmarks today, too. An easy way to share with your neighbors and friends this special Holy Spirit tradition. See you in the parish hall! This year's HOLIDAY MARKET is right around the corner, November 10 and 11. We're looking for antiques, vintage goodies, handmade crafts, jewelry, new or nearly "new" gift items, framed art, and holiday decorations. (Please save all clothing, books, toys and rummage for our spring event.) You may bring your Market donations to the church anytime through Sunday, November 5. Please place them in closed and marked boxes near the coat racks in the hallway outside the Guild Room. Thank you! Questions? Please call Diane Rasmuson at 493-6192 or Tracey Gage at 219-207-0454.

THE HOLIDAY MARKET CRAFT GROUP is now meeting! Join us on Fridays at 10 a.m. upstairs in the church office. We will meet every Friday until the Holiday Market on November 10 and 11, making ornaments, holiday decorations, and jewelry to sell. This is a great way to meet other parishioners. No experience is necessary, and you can come any Friday and stay as long as your schedule allows. For more information about the Craft Group, contact Sue Lowery at 546-8401 or [email protected].

Youth Ministry HOLY SPIRIT’S YOUTH GROUP will meet at Holy Spirit tonight, October 22, for our monthly gathering of pizza, games, fellowship, and discussion from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall. Hope you can join us! Come and bring your friends.
