Pacers sideline Granger By The Associated Press INDIANAPOLIS — Danny Granger’s season is ending the same way it began in Indiana — with a sore left knee that SPORTS will require NOTEBOOK more medical treatment. The team announced Thursday that Granger would miss the rest of the season so he could undergo surgery on the bothersome knee that has slowed him since last year’s playoffs. “He’s at peace with it,” Pacers coach Frank Vogel said. “He’s disappointed, but you have to make the best decision.” Cards to wear patch for Musial ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals will wear a patch on their left sleeve this season to honor the memory of Stan Musial. The patch is unusual for one honoring a deceased icon: There is no black, a nod to Musial’s alwayssunny disposition. It features a red border and Musial’s No. 6, in red, with his signature through the number. Colts nab fullback from Philly INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts have acquired fullback Stanley Havili in a trade with Philadelphia in exchange for defensive end Clifton Geathers. The 6-foot, 245-pound Havili gives the Colts their first true fullback in years and should help the new offense under first-year coordinator Pep Hamilton. Hoiberg inks 10-year ISU deal AMES, Iowa — The remarkable job that Iowa State’s Fred Hoiberg has done in turning around his alma mater apparently got the attention of several colleges and NBA teams. The Cyclones responded by opening their wallet to keep “The Mayor” in office for at least another decade. Iowa State announced that Hoiberg has agreed to a new 10-year, $20 million deal with the Cyclones that will run through 2023. Gottlieb blasted for race remark NEW YORK — CBS analyst Doug Gottlieb got coverage of the NCAA tournament’s Sweet 16 off to an awkward start, saying he was there to bring the “white man’s perspective” to the network’s pregame show. Speaking on a panel with four African-Americans, Gottlieb made his comment during a pre-game segment before Marquette beat Miami, sparking criticism on Twitter that his words were inappropriate. “I’m just here to bring diversity to this set, give kind of the white man’s perspective,” he said during the show. Santana’s career in question NEW YORK — Johan Santana may have thrown his final pitch for the New York Mets and perhaps even the last of his big league career. The Mets said Thursday the two-time Cy Young Award winner probably has re-torn the anterior capsule in his left shoulder and likely will need a second operation that would sideline him for the entire season. Martin set to drive for Joe Gibbs CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mark Martin will drive for Joe Gibbs Racing while Denny Hamlin recovers from a fractured vertebra in his lower back. Martin’s first start in the No. 11 Toyota will be next week at Martinsville Speedway.
