Pats roll as No. 1 Titans await From Herald Staff Reports There’s no time for breaking for the Heritage Hills football team. The Class FA L L 3A No. 6 PatriSPORTS ots had ample reason to slow down in their Friday tilt against North Posey in Poseyville. The Pats were coming off a dramatic comeback victory against rival Jasper in Lincoln City last week, and the Vikings had just one win and were fresh off a 38-point blowout defeat to Southridge. Seven days later, the Patriots kept applying the gas. Heritage Hills (5-0, 3-0 Pocket Athletic Conference) continued its unblemished start on Friday, burying North Posey 42-7 as Kenton Crews upped his three-touchdown performance against Jasper with four total TDs against the Vikings (three rushing, one receiving). The Pats’ 5-0 record matches their best start to a season since 2007, when Heritage Hills won its first 13 games before falling in the semistate. Crews notched the game’s first score with a 65-yard scamper just 55 seconds into the game, and he added TD runs of 7 and 16, as well as a 64-yard receiving hookup

from quarterback Caleb Mulzer, who connected on 10-of-16 passes for a season-high 175 yards. Crews caught four balls for 112 yards, and Jack Fischer Graham also caught four for 30. Heritage Hills took a 14-0 lead into halftime before pouring on 21 points in the third quarter. The Vikings’ Isaac Mayer scored on a 1-yard run with 3:13 in the period for North Posey’s only touchdown. Mayer led the Vikings (1-4, 1-3) with 54 yards on 23 carries; no other Viking totaled more than 16 yards rushing. On the other hand, Matthew Graham registered 87 yards on six carries and punched in the Pats’ final score on a 2-yard plunge. On the extra point, Patriot girls soccer standout Dria Oxley drilled the PAT to become the first female to score in Patriot football history. The Pats now brace for next Friday’s collision in Lincoln City against another undefeated team, Class 3A No. 1 Gibson Southern.

The Titans (5-0, 3-0) operate the state’s second-highest scoring offense at 60.6 points per game (New Palestine is first with 62.5 ppg). The Titans have yet Oxley to score less than 56 points this season and have defeated opponents by an average of 56 points per contest. Gibson Southern’s only two losses in 2014 came against Heritage Hills: a 38-33 regular-season decision and the Pats’ 14-13 sectional championship victory.

■■ BOYS SOCCER Patriots 5, Jeeps 3: Kobi Knies de-

posited a goal midway through the first half to give visiting Northeast Dubois a 1-0 advantage, but Vincennes Rivet bounced back by scoring the next four goals and halting the Jeeps’ seven-game win streak. The Jeeps (8-2, 4-2 Blue Chip Conference) scored goal No. 2 on a penalty kick from Drew Jacob. Jacob also scored with four minutes to play off an assist from Brandon Merkel.

Castro leads with RBI flashback By The Associated Press CHICAGO — Starlin Castro remembered the previous time he had six RBIs in a game. “Yeah, my SPORTS debut,” he said. NOTEBOOK “That was a long time ago.” Castro accomplished that in his first big league appearance, on May 7, 2010 at Cincinnati. He did it again Friday, hitting a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the fifth inning and a three-run drive in the sixth to lead the Chicago Cubs over the St. Louis Cardinals 8-3 Friday for their fourth straight win. Castro went 3 for 3 with a walk in the third multihomer game of his career. He put the Cubs ahead 5-3 in the fifth with his drive off Seth Maness (4-2), then connected off Steve Cishek in the sixth for his 10th homer this season. Castro, who lost his starting shortstop job in early August, has not lost his swing and upbeat attitude, according to manager Joe Maddon. And the infielder loved the curtain call following his second homer.

“I have like six years here and that never happened, never,” Castro said. “That’s my first time and I enjoyed it so much.” Chicago began the day two games behind Pittsburgh for the NL’s top wild-card berth. The Cubs closed within six games of the NL Central-leading Cardinals. Tommy Hunter (2-0), the second Chicago reliever, got one out in the fifth, and Justin Grimm, Pedro Strop, Fernando Rodney and Neil Ramirez combined for four scoreless innings of two-hit relief. Cardinals starter Lance Lynn lasted 31⁄3 innings and threw 83 pitches, allowing three runs, four hits and six walks. He is 0-2 with a 9.26 ERA in his last three starts, giving up 12 runs, 15 hits and 11 walks in 112⁄3 innings.

Players: Coach said to hit ref DALLAS — A Texas high school football coach directed two players to strike a referee during a game because of missed calls that had hurt the team, the players claimed Friday during a national broadcast. During an appearance on ABC’s “Good Morning, America,” Michael Moreno and Victor Rojas also repeated earlier claims that the ref had used racial slurs. Moreno said he regrets hitting Robert Watts and wants to apologize. Rojas said he was just doing what he was told.
