NEW CHEMICALS Single

Crystals

Lithium niobato is grown in large single crystals by the Ciochralski pull ing technique; single crystals are con verted into single-domain material by poling at elevated temperatures. These crystals exhibit outstanding nonlinear optical properties; they are available in a variety of sizes. End faces are polished optically flat to λ/10 and parallel to 5 seconds. Lithium tantalate crystals are also available. The optical transmittance characteristics of LiTa0 3 and LiNb0 3 are similar; the useful range is 300 nm to 6000 nm. Isomet Corp., 433 Com mercial Ave., Palisades Park, N. J. 501 Grignard

Reagents

Prepared Grignard reagents are available in screw capped, tinned con tainers. Supplied from stock (2.0M, 500 ml) are the following: ethylmagnesium bromide, phenylmagnesium bro mide, cyclohexylmagnetium chloride ; ieri-butylmagnesium chloride; methylmagnesium chloride; and isopropylmagnesium chloride. Others are available on a custom basis. Matheson Coleman and Bell, P. O. Box 85, East Rutherford, N. J. 502

Stationary Phase

High Purity Oxides

A new stationary phase for gas chro matography, OV-1, is a silicone which is more thermally stable than other dimethylpolysiloxane stationary phases. OV-1 can also be substituted for the commonly used nonpolar silicones without the need for recalibration since separation characteristics are identical. Supelco, Inc., P. O. Box 581, Bellefonte, Pa. 16823. 505

Eleven high purity oxides (purities of 99.999%) are supplied in 100-gram ampoules. They are: arsenic trioxide, bismuth trioxide, cadmium dioxide, copper dioxide, germanium tetraoxide, indium trioxide, lead dioxide, selenium tetraoxide, tellurium dioxide, thallium trioxide, and zinc dioxide. Electronic Space Products, Inc., 854 South Rob ertson Blvd., Los Angeles, Calif. 90035. 507

Spectro Quality Solvents Porous Glass

The following solvents—useful in the far ultraviolet region, below 200 ταμ—are available in Spectro Grade: hexafluoroacetone trihydrate ; hexafluoroisopropanol ; and trifluoroethanol. These solvents have been processed through glass-packed columns with automatic magnetic cutting heads. Analyses have been performed on a commercial instrument with the lowest cut-off point in the UV. The solvents are supplied in 100-gram quantities in bottles with Teflon-lined caps. With each bottle is included the VPC and far UV curves. High purity porous glass, Corning Code 7930, is the product of an inter mediate phase in the manufacturing process for 96% Vycor brand glass. Because of its unique adsorptive prop erties, porous glass has found use as an adsorbent in thin layer chromatogra phy. The material is offered with a minimum of organic contamination; it is nearly twice as fast as silic acid ad sorbents in the development of thin layer chromatograms. The fine-pow der form of porous glass, ready for use without binder, is available in 500-gram bottles. Corning Glass Works, Cor ning, Ν. Υ. 508

Electrophoresis Medium Sepraphore III, the cellulose polyacetate medium for electrophoresis, is joined by a second grade, Sepraphore II. Sepraphore II offers the same conven ience, speed and resolution as Sepra phore III, but has a lower selling price. The material is said to be ideal for rou tine diagnostic applications in busy service laboratories and in labs now using paper. Sepraphore III, however, is recommended for research and spe cial applications. Gelman Instrument Co., 600 South Wagner "Rd., P. O. Box 1448, Ann Arbor, Mich. 503
