GRACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH JOB DESCRIPTION PRESCHOOL DIRECTOR DESCRIPTION

The Preschool Director is responsible for executing and managing daily activities of the Grace United Methodist Church Preschool as established by the Preschool Board, providing a place where children are loved, through helping, healing, and home. The Director works in partnership with the Pastor to Children and Families[a] to ensure that the preschool curriculum is grounded in United Methodist theology. The Director is a member of the church program staff and the primary business manager and overseer for the Preschool. Areas of interest include: 1. Meet and maintain licensing requirements. 2. Daily operations, scheduling and staffing. 3. Budgeting and financial execution. 4. Continuous quality improvement centered on the Tennessee STARS program as well as any other criteria adopted by the Board. 5. Implementation of a curriculum that is appropriate to age and developmental level. 6. Staff development and evaluations. 7. Age and developmental level - appropriate student evaluations and providing feedback to parents. 8. Advising, working with, informing and executing policies established by the Board. 9. Marketing and enrollment. 10. Keeping medical records up to date on each child. 11. Ensuring school has adequate supplies and equipment. 12. Maintaining a file of qualified applicants for staffing. 13. Per Board and church policy, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, supervising and evaluating staff in the best interests of the program. ____________________________________________________________________________________ Revised 5/23/2017

14. Recommending an annual budget to the Board. 15. Keeping informed of new research and developments in education and child development; maintaining professional library, and participating in related professional and community organizations. 16. Interviewing parents of prospective enrollees, arranging for a tour of the facilities and providing information as requested or needed. 17. Being available to counsel with parents. 18. Providing a handbook for parents with policies and procedures for the school.

QUALIFICATIONS Reference DHS Standard,​ ​Rule 1240-04-03-.07, March, 2009 (Revised) 27(4) Qualifications for Director of a Single-Site Child Care Center​; ​Minimum

2 years college.

Degree in Early Childhood Education or an advanced degree in a related field from an accredited four-year institution. Minimum of three years, full-time work experience in an Early Childhood program. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Supportive attitude toward church and its mission; Emotionally mature and willing to establish and maintain boundaries; Demonstrated record of successful program development; Ability to pass a background check. Computer skills to include email, word processing, spreadsheet and presentations.

ACCOUNTABILITY The Preschool Director is accountable to the Preschool Board. The Lead Pastor will provide oversight of daily activities.

There will be an annual evaluation made by the Lead Pastor with input from the Preschool Board.

With all new employees there will be a 30 and 90 day evaluation and then quarterly reviews for the first year and afterwards annually. The SPRC is the personnel committee for the church and a representative of the SPRC sits on the Preschool Board. The Preschool Director is invited to make recommendations to the Preschool Board.

The Preschool Board reserves the right to update and revise this document as they deem necessary. The revised document will be provided to the Preschool Director and an updated signature will be required.

COMPENSATION This is a full-time salaried position. Compensation is to be determined by the Preschool Board. Additional information regarding compensation as well as paid time off is included in the Employee Handbook.

HOURS It is expected that this position will require 40 hours per week to achieve the required tasks. This generally includes weekday work but may include a monthly evening meeting or other events as determined by the Preschool Board.
