radstock network membership Radstock is a network of churches connected for global mission. The key churches in our network are at the heart of the work we do. Different churches will participate in the network in different ways at different times. We work hard to keep centralised and administrative expenses at an absolute minimum, but there are inevitably some costs to facilitating a growing network. Radstock’s work is made possible by the generous contributions – of services, expertise, resources and money – from churches who identify with the network, and from individuals who support our vision. biblical rationale churches connected... God's people are at the heart of what God is doing. God's purposes are not focused on many unrelated individuals but upon his people. In Christ those promises find their fulfillment in the church. The church is the new Israel, the holy nation. Christ died for the church, his bride. (Ephesians 5:25; 1 Peter 2:4-10; Revelation 21:1-3)

The local church is at the heart of God's mission. The New Testament speaks of church in two senses: the heavenly congregation continually gathered around the throne of God, and local congregations which are the time and space expression of this heavenly reality. The focus of God's saving purposes for his people is therefore expressed, in history, in local congregations. (Hebrews 12:22-24; Galatians 4:26; Revelation 21:1-3)

Through the incorporation of the Gentiles and the creation of the one people of God, God's eternal plan to reconcile all things under Christ is made manifest to the rulers and authorities as it is realised now in the church. (Ephesians 1:9-10; 2:11-3:13)

...for global mission The God of the Bible is a God of mission. The Bible is the story of God's plan to save his people. God's promise to Abraham was that he would be a blessing to the nations; Israel was called to be a light to the Gentiles and in Christ this is fulfilled as the good news of salvation goes out to the nations. (Genesis 12:1-3; Deuteronomy 4:6-8; Isaiah 56:3-8; 60:1-3; Matthew 28:18-20; Galatians 3:6-9)

Mission is at the heart of what it means to be church and church is at the heart of what it means to do mission. The life of the Christian community is part of the gospel message of reconciliation. Mission takes place as people see our love for one another. The local church is also the natural context in which people are discipled. Mission and church are, therefore, two sides of the same coin. (John 13:34-35; 17:23; Acts 4:32-35)

Wherever people responded to the gospel churches were planted. Those churches continued the apostolic mission by being missionary churches. From these churches new churches were planted. (Acts 11:19-26; 18:1-8)

values gospel priority Jesus Christ made himself nothing, being born into the world for the glory of His Father and for the salvation of His people. Therefore we are committed to putting the Good News of Jesus Christ, a passion for God’s glory, and involvement in His mission before our personal interests. We will depend on God, living lives that are servant-hearted, sacrificial, risk-taking and flexible because the gospel has priority over our comfort, preferences, security and traditions. church community The Christian life is not an individual pursuit. Believers are united with Christ and each other, living and serving together in local expressions of his body – the church. These church communities are at the heart of God’s strategy for mission. Therefore our projects and ministries are always rooted in local church life and growth. In the context of local churches, the fullness of the Good News is demonstrated and proclaimed as believers live out their faith together, and bring light to the dark corners of their localities. humble orthodoxy We are united in Christ and commanded to love one another. Therefore, confident in the gospel, we will work together with love, respect and humility, recognising that among evangelical churches around the world, there is a diversity of culture and belief on secondary issues. We endeavour not to allow these differences to stand in the way of gospel ministry. We do this in mutual submission to Scripture as our final authority, the reliable and sufficient Word of God. intentional partnership Churches working together, across ethnic and cultural divides, witness to the glorious diversity and unity of the body of Christ. Therefore we aim to move beyond theoretical unity to relationships of trust and tangible cooperation between churches in and from diverse cultures. We believe churches can do more in the service of Christ together than they can on their own, sharing experience, expertise, cultural understanding and resources. multiplicational growth We are biblically persuaded that the church is God’s mission strategy and see mission, not maintenance, as the only biblical ethos of church life. Therefore we are committed to the multiplication of local churches. We want to catalyse a missional vision within existing congregations, with a focus on churches collaborating to plant new churches which in turn plant more churches – to the ends of the earth!

case study: macedonia Disciples’ Church (Durres, Albania) and Stopsley Baptist Church (Luton, UK) have forged a partnership to plant the first evangelical church in centuries amongst the unreached Albanian people of Macedonia. Macedonia, in south-eastern Europe, is home to 650,000 Albanian-speaking Muslims with no church and perhaps ten believers amongst them. Most see Islam as inextricably bound up with their cultural identity, distinguishing them from the Slavic majority (traditionally Orthodox Christians) who hold most of the political and economic power in the country. While Slavic Macedonian churches focus on reaching their own ethnic group, this Radstock partnership reflects the fact that Albanian Christians are uniquely placed to reach Albanians beyond their own borders. The UK church helped foster a vision for global mission in the Albanian church who, in turn, have taken the lead in shaping strategy. Each church has sent a family longterm. Urban Life (Derby, UK) are sending a further team member and Grace Bible Church (Arroyo Grande, USA) are key contributors through prayer and consultation. All four churches are involved financially. Leaders from each of the churches meet regularly - in person and by phone - to keep alignment and focus. As the vision unfolds and more partners engage, we expect to see a series of teams in key cities in the region, each committed to planting churches that multiply.

case study: north india God is doing an amazing work in North India in our time. Historically most Christian activity has been in the south, leaving the north largely unreached. Indeed the region of Uttar Pradesh (UP) - birthplace of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism - was called the graveyard of Christian missions. Alok Srivastava was a high-caste Hindu and devout worshipper of Shiva. He became a believer in the 1990s and now heads ‘The Alliance’, a movement of multiplying churches which has planted 819 churches in the last 7 years: most in remote villages, with young leaders, facing significant persecution. At Radstock’s 2008 International Conference, Alok met Richard Burningham, Vicar of Holy Trinity Church in Southampton, UK, and Keith Mersh, a businessman and Radstock Consultant. Through the Radstock network, partnerships developed which have resulted in sponsorship of bore well projects with churches; training conferences for house church leaders; Hindu Bibles for hundreds of new village believers; and short-term teams assisting in church projects. Involvement in God’s work in Uttar Pradesh has sparked a new passion for mission back in churches like Richard’s: “Since connecting with Alok and the Alliance, our own church has been inspired with a vision for 2020 (20% Christians in our local area by 2020), and for me to keep going out to train young church planters, as part of our mission outreach.” Many of the unreached people groups of the world live in this vast tract of land, and it is a strategic time to partner with our brothers and sisters.

statement of faith Along with evangelical Christians throughout history and across the world, we believe in: • The sovereignty and grace of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit in creation, providence, revelation, redemption and final judgement. • The divine inspiration of the Holy Scripture and its consequent entire trustworthiness and supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct. • The universal sinfulness and guilt of fallen man, making him subject to God's wrath and condemnation. • The substitutionary sacrifice of the incarnate Son of God as the sole all sufficient ground of redemption from the guilt and power of sin and from its eternal consequences. • The justification of the sinner solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ crucified and risen from the dead. • The illuminating, regenerating, indwelling and sanctifying work of God the Holy Spirit. • The priesthood of all believers, who form the universal Church, the Body of which Christ is the Head and which is committed by His command to the proclamation of the Gospel throughout the world. • The expectation of the personal, visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ in power and glory.

history In the age of communist Russia, a German organisation called Friedensstimme (German for "Voice of Peace") worked on behalf of unregistered and imprisoned believers in what was then the Soviet Union. A UK arm of Friedensstimme laboured to raise awareness and be a voice of advocacy in England for those behind the Iron Curtain. In 1989 when the wall fell, those involved in Friedensstimme UK had to decide what ministry to pursue: whether to continue with advocacy work on behalf of the oppressed in other parts of the world, or to continue in their mission to see the gospel made known in Russia and beyond. With much prayer, it was decided that the men and women of Friedensstimme UK would pursue building gospel partnerships with believers in what had become the ‘former Soviet Union'. And so Radstock Ministries was born, named after a member of the British aristocracy Lord Radstock - who in the 1870's had a profound influence on the founding of the evangelical church in Russia. Radstock Ministries dedicated itself to seeing local churches in Russia, the UK and beyond take up their privilege and responsibility in mission. Throughout the 1990's, Radstock's local church connections grew beyond the former Soviet Union into Eastern Europe. Radstock's commitment to equipping and mobilising churches for mission was reinvigorated at the turn of the century as the network of churches expanded to the Balkans, the U.S., and Zambia. Today, these churches are actively seeking mission opportunities through gospel partnerships and aiming to encourage and equip each other and other local churches for mission.
