Reformation Lutheran School & Preschool Weekly Newsletter

WEEK OF DECEMBER 16 - 22, 2018 Principal's Message - Our Ministry. Our School. Our Calling. This is a busy time for everyone, but this is especially the time of year where the Reformation Lutheran School Board of Education, the principal and vice principal, preschool directors, and teachers start thinking ahead to the 2019-2020 school year. During this time we evaluate three main areas: 1. Our Mission 2. Our Curriculum 3. Our Staff So, I would like to take the next three weeks to say just a bit about each one of those. OUR CURRICULUM Knowledge without purpose is pointless; we believe that academic excellence and Christian values go hand-in-hand. We make it intentional that Christ comes rst in our daily activities through Word of God classes, devotions, and prayers. · For our curriculum, we use nationally recognized publishers, enabling students to be challenged academically and develop individually. · We use standardized tests to gauge development. Perennially, our students do very well, scoring above the national averages. We have also seen that the longer they attend Reformation, the higher the percentage of outperformance. · We are accredited by the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) and are part of the second largest private school system in the United States (WELS). · We maintain high academic standards and smaller than average class sizes, enabling our students to excel academically and socially. · In addition to the core curriculum, we also make sure our students have opportunities to exercise their God-given talents as they study music and art, participate in physical education, and engage in a variety of extra-curricular activities and sports. Equipped with high academic standards, positive parental involvement, and caring Christian teachers, the students at Reformation can strive to reach their full potential. Our graduates are successful in high school and beyond. It’s an education dedicated to preparing young minds and hearts for the world that awaits.

#RefTechTips Do you often take notes and then forget where you placed them? Try taking notes on your phone or computer instead. The nice part about online note taking apps is that no matter where you take the note; your phone, tablet or computer, they sync across all your devices and are always accessible. There are many different apps out there that can accomplish this. Google Keep syncs nicely if you use gmail. (www.keep.google.com) Evernote is another popular option. (www.evernote.com) Microsoft OneNote is one more cross platform popular app. (www.onenote.com)

Update from Mrs. Mangini's 2nd grade classroom "Maybe Christmas," he thought, "doesn't come from a store." "Maybe Christmas...perhaps...means a little bit more!" The above line is an excerpt from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”. This line is the light bulb moment in the book when the Grinch realizes that Christmas isn’t all about tinsel, presents or lights on a tree but rather something more important. The book makes a great point that we as Christians can be reminded to keep our focus on Jesus as the reason for Christmas. The second graders talked about this very idea on Grinch Day. Last week the second grade class had the privilege of celebrating one of Miss Brigetta’s favorite days, Grinch Day. Preschool – 2nd grade gather together to listen to the famous holiday story about Whoville. The students listened as Miss Brigetta read the book about the Grinch, students played games, and dressed in green to celebrate the Grinch. Besides practicing for the Christmas program, second grade has stayed busy mastering math facts, counting change, and improving their reading uency. Our class also published their own book once again this past fall. This year we collaborated on writing “The Great Escape of Candy Corn Man”. The students drew their own illustrations and wrote their own stories about Dash the runaway candy corn man. Our books are arriving this next week so if you want to peek come and visit our room! We want to invite everyone to attend the grade school Christmas Program Friday, December 21 at 7:00 pm. We look forward to sharing the Christmas message to everyone next week. May you all have a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT WORSHIP AND SOUP SUPPERS AT REFORMATION DURING ADVENT This Advent, as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior Jesus, join us on Wednesday nights in December at 7:00pm (December 5, 12 & 19) for our midweek Advent worship services. We will prepare our hearts for Christmas by asking questions about what it will be like when our Lord comes. Through what God foretold in the Bible, we will nd answers to those questions that will prepare us for celebrating Christmas and lead us to give all glory to God alone for sending his Son into the world to be our Savior! Join us for soup supper fellowships in the gym at 5:30pm and then join us in the church at 7:00pm for the Advent services. Feel free to bring small children in their pajamas. We aim to keep the services to 30-40 minutes, including the time set aside for our traditional favorite Christmas hymns and carols sing-a-long.

The world can be a dark place. We see it in the news. We see it in our lives. But on the rst Christmas, a brilliant light pierced the darkness. The child born in a Bethlehem stable had come to bring the light of forgiveness and peace to a darkened world. Join us to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ! Our Christmas worship will feature an inspiring message, favorite Christmas carols, and a place to bask in the light of the Christ child.

Christmas Attire- Friday, December 21st As we look forward to our Christmas break, we thought we would let the children wear something fun for the last day of school before the break. Children may wear Christmas themed attire to school on Friday, December 21. Please make sure that it is modest and appropriate for school. If your daughter has Christmas leggings, she may wear them under a skirt. Because the children have their service that night, they may not color their hair. If your child does not want to wear Christmas themed attire, they need to wear their school uniform.
