Raiders set for sectional From Herald Staff Reports The end of the regular season arrived Wednesday for the Southridge girls golf team, as the Raiders finished GIRLS at the back of GOLF a three-way meet but still made a little progress with the postseason just days away. The Raiders finished behind Washington (178) and Pike Central (213) at Country Oaks Golf Course in Montgomery, where Southridge fired a 227 for its third-best ninehole tally this season. Olivia Mundy paced the Raiders with a 53, followed by Paige Snyder and Megan Weitkamp both at 57. Rosa Orñelas shot a 60 and Taylor Sheldon finished with a 61 for Southridge, which will head to Jasper for Saturday’s sectional at Buffalo Trace Golf Course.

Flash (Concluded from Page 27) the yields of Collins’ play-making as a defensive end, there’s so many moving parts in that position — flipping back and forth between packages where he’s rushing the quarterback one play and monitoring receivers the next. So Collins is on the move again. He’ll debut as a defensive tackle Friday night when North Posey visits. “We found it was just too much he had to learn too fast,” Wilkerson said. “We’re trying to take away some of the thinking and just get out there and be aggressive, be athletic and make plays.” Not a bad plan. When the Pats were struggling in the punting game last season, Wilkerson decided to test Collins’ toe. Now, he’s averaging 38.3 yards per punt. By comparison, that’s better than the averages of punters from three Big Ten schools (Indiana, Iowa and Michigan State), and Wilkerson said the punting route is “maybe an option for him to go play at the next level.” Wherever Collins lands, he’s sure to splash with color. At Wednesday’s practice, he rolled in wearing a pair of bright orangish-pink shorts, a black T-shirt and neon green socks. He’s not bashful about wearing a pair of shoes dotted with floral patterns around school. His faux pas intermingling of name brand is something of a legend, too, as “even my principal and vice principal have stopped me before in the lunch line and said, ‘Hey Collins, you know you’re not supposed to wear Adidas with Nike?’ I don’t know. I just kind of drop my head and laugh,” he said. Just Collins being Collins. If he feels like screaming his head off to celebrate a good play or simply to fire up teammates, then he’ll scream his head off. Given the chance to light up someone else’s quarterback, he’ll pounce. It’s working for the Patriots. “I love being physical,” Collins said. “It’s fun. And with my size, I’d like to hopefully win most of the battles that I’m in. And I love firing the team up, and (a big hit) is usually what can do it.”
