Prodigal Party Sermon Series

Kingdom: The Prodigal Party

Many of us are familiar with the Prodigal Son parable. The Father welcomes home his younger son who wasted the inheritance. The older son is upset that the father is so frivolous toward the irresponsible behavior of his younger brother. We usually jump from this story to a statement about God’s love and forgiveness.

Saturday, July 28, 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Fellowship Center. We will be taking a look into the subtle yet deadly power of false religion. Our hope is that our eyes will be opened to this dominant understanding for many within the Church and why this counterfeit gospel is not good news at all. In fact it is precisely what repels our friends who are unchurched, underchurched, and/or anti-churched.

The month of July we will be going more deeply into this familiar story and discovering some additional, surprising things. The main focus of the story is not the son who wasted his inheritance, but the father’s extravagant party. If prodigal means extravagant and wasteful, you can’t get any more extravagant than throwing a party for an irresponsible son. Come join us as we explore a parable that might better be titled the “Prodigal Party.” View the sermons and small group study guides. www.rbcpc.org/prodigal-party

We will spend some time expounding the gospel of the Prodigal Sons in Luke 15. After that, we’ll enjoy a brunch served by our wonderful RBCPC food service. Finally to powerfully illustrate the difference between false religion and the Gospel, we’ll view and discuss the Oscar nominated movie, Chocolát starring Juliette Binoche, Judi Dench, Alfred Molina, and Johnny Depp. Early Bird: $15 if you register by July 22. Regular Price: $20. Registration closes on July 25. www.rbcpc.org/kingdom-the-prodigal-party
