Hello again, It is time again for another year of the stallion services auction, having baby horses, horse shows and Arabian horse fun. Thank you for your interest in the Region 12 Spotlight Program. This year we have another fine lineup of stallions for your consideration. The past year has been, and this year may continue to be, a time of economic stress for our country, so I would like to talk to you about value. Buying a breeding at our Spotlight Auction gets you a terrific value for your “breeding dollars”. First, it is an exciting night filled with surprises and drama. There is no charge for the auction itself and comes with drinks and dinner provided — a pretty good value. Next, just by attending you have immediate access to, and a selection of, the best stallions in the country. We have National Champions, Regional Champions, Scottsdale Champions and industry leading halter and performance sires. All of this in one place in one evening for no charge — a pretty good value. Buying an auction breeding entitles the resulting foal to typically compete for over a hundred thousand dollars in prize money. The classes are not only for yearlings but for two-year-olds, three-year-olds, four-year-olds and then finally five-year-olds — a pretty good value. When you bring your Spotlight youngster to our Region 12 Championship Show in May your horse can participate in Spotlight classes, Region 12 New Futurity classes (if you remembered to nominate), Sweepstakes classes and Region 12 Championship classes, all in one trip — a pretty good value. Lastly, your decision to buy a Region 12 Spotlight Auction breeding will help you sell your babies. Your customers will see other amateurs winning in the show ring and being handed checks of ten- and twenty-thousand dollars in prize money, we could all use that to help sell horses — again a pretty good ….well you get the idea. Your interest will help us make this the best Region 12 Spotlight Stallion Services Auction to date. Thank you. Best Regards, Daniel G. Regan

* Footnote discussion related to rule I, B, 4
“...There are no refunds or rollovers for mares nominated to breeding purchased at the stallion auction...” This means that if you bought a breeding at the Stallion services auction and you do not have a mare pregnant from that breeding at the end of the breeding year -you are not eligible to roll that nomination/breeding into another Auction class breeding year, nor are you eligible for any subsequent Auction Yearling classes. At first this may seem rigid but consider the following: 1.You still own the breeding. 2. In this program you are not required to designate a mare ahead of time. If your first choice of mare does not work you may use another mare. Considering you bought the breeding in May and it is not for use until the following year, you have more than a year and a half to work this out. 3. If you do use the breeding you can nominate the mare into the non-auction classes and participate in all of the classes the Futurity except the Yearling Auction classes. 4. T he reason for this rule is clear after you think about it for a minute. There is not a good way for us to track and move the money from one year to another. For example, if you bought a breeding in one year and the total Auction Breeding class prize money was $100,000 that year. With that breeding you have bought the right to compete for part of that $100,000. Then let’s say for sake of example, you don’t get your mare pregnant. But the next year’s auction breeding class money is $200,000. There is no good way for us to move your money from one year to the next and keep track of that. Plus your money is part of what the other competitors are hoping to win. We cannot, in fairness, withdraw it.
