“NABCJ: Taking a Look at the Line of Justice: Is it Broken or Bent?” Workshop Descriptions ♦After the Bang - The presentataion will highlight how supervisory decisions can impact an officer’s mental wellness, and subsequent reintegration back to full duty after an officer involved shooting. ♦Analyzing Recidivism Rates Among Black Juveniles: Is Probation Effective? -This study provides a qualitative analyzes on the effects of probation on the likelihood that black youths engage in recidivism, while looking at the causes and effects. The outcome of this study will provide implications for policy change within the juvenile justice system that propose ways to effectively lower recidivism rates within the community in which we live. ♦Broken: Behind and Beyond the Bars - Dispelling the myth of mental health services that exist behind bars and the lack of supportive services beyond the bars. Recommendations on how to address mental health for the formerly incarcerated. Describe the concurrent mental health services being offered through the Federal Bureau of Prisons (RDAP, Trauma, Med Management, etc). Identifying supportive services or mental health services in the re-entry process. ♦Bulletproof Spirit: Trauma, PTSD, and the Process of Healing - This workshop discusses trauma - what it is, how it affects officers, and ways it can not only injure our brain (causing PTSD) but can kill us. It discusses Post Traumatic Stress, symptoms and warnings signs, and several proactive wellness strategies to heal from trauma. ♦Effective Juvenile Justice Practices – Unique Programs for Unique Youth – This workshop will provide an overview of the Specialty Programs and Courts operated by the Dallas County Juvenile Department. These innovative programs are deferred prosecution programs that have proven to be effective in addressing juvenile delinquency. ♦Family Values That Open the Lines of Justice - The lines of justice are broken and must begin within the family. This generating learning opportunity will expand your view on how just behavior or treatment is directly connected to family values. Participants will be equipped to recognize, embrace and take action based on family values that support and command justice for all. ♦Financial Freedom in Five Steps - The workshop will be an interactive one regarding personal finances at the entry level . I will demonstrate five (5) simple steps to build a nest egg for anyone with an income including retirees. The steps will come from my book “ Light at the End of the Tunnel, How I achieved Financial Freedom in Five steps” ♦Implicit Bias in Criminal Justice: Understanding The Research - This workshop focuses on the extant research on implicit bias and its effects within the criminal justice system. Workshop participants will gain an understanding of the effects of implicit bias in decision-making by criminal justice practitioners based on available research and how implicit bias may impact their own decisionmaking. ♦It’s a Woman’s World: Black Women as Criminals When Society Turns its Back - In today’s society, the racial divide regarding race is still prevalent as it has been illustrated with the election of President Trump. This study focuses on the broken homes within the black community that leaves the black women to carry the world on their shoulders. By exploring the causes and effects through a qualitative analysis, this study aims to 1.) Offer a unique insight into the black woman’s worldview through the lens of race, gender and crime; 2.) Explore black feminism as a means of depicting black criminality. ♦J. Bell Consulting - Speak to Your Vision (W.O.N - Women of NABCJ) - J. Bell Consulting is Women Owned SC Corrections Criminal Justice Firm Specialing in Staff Development Training, Inmate Programming, and Reentry Services. ♦Life after Death: Overcoming Childhood Trauma - This presentation covers a true story of a child left behind due to witnessing the murder and suicide of her parents. Speaker covers in detail the unfolding of finding out what lead up to the tragedy and how she overcame; past, present and future. ♦Mental Health Perceptions and the Effects of Crisis Intervention Training -The present study examines individual’s perceptions on mental health and how crisis intervention trainings affect policies within the criminal justice system. This study analyzes the relationship between mental illnesses and criminal behavior. ♦Reclaiming Our Life: A Narrative of Two Formerly Incarcerated Women - Discussion on life after incarceration with two formerly incarcerated women and the challenges related to reentry. The purpose is to educate and provide insight on the reentry process for women as it differs from men. Explore the barriers to resources and supportive services that exist with this growing population who are entering the prison system. Often people forget that the majority of those incarcerated return home. ♦Recognizing and Learning how to End Domestic Violence Workshop - This workshop tells my story of living thru domestic violence, the death of my son due to the abuse I endured during my pregnancy and the link between accepting domestic violence as a victim and mental illness. It also showcases how to recognize the long term effects the abuse has on the children in the home. ♦Reentry vs. Restoration - This workshop will include the importance of moving the Offender forward bringing to light how many ways the person keeps paying. The goal is to have participants to develop a Vision Board to take back and stop the continued personal criminalization that continues years later. ♦The Importance of Black Law Enforcement Organizations in the age of Trump Politics - The workshop focuses on the importance of Black Law Enforcement organizations in relations to criminal Justice Reform, labor, and policing policies of the black community
