Senior Program Convenor (Accounting and Finance) North Ryde, Sydney SIBT Sydney Campus, Full-Time, Ongoing Navitas, or PIBT as it was then, was founded in 1994 with the goal of helping more international students succeed at university in Australia via improved student support and an extended academic year. Sydney Institute of Business and Technology (SIBT) is part of Navitas Limited, with colleges and managed campuses across Australia, Canada, Africa, Asia and the United Kingdom. SIBT is based on the campus of Macquarie University and offers a wide range of pathway programs to the University. The Program Convenor will have a teaching role and will assist the Academic Director in providing high quality pathway programs by ensuring their program of responsibility is coherent in design, planning, management, delivery and assessment. This incorporates responsibilities for unit coordination, academic quality assurance, provision of academic advice to students, staff management, teaching (and where relevant, unit coordination). The Program Convenor is also responsible for developing and maintaining strong links with relevant industry and university articulation partners. This position is specifically responsible for Accounting / Finance units within award programs offered by SIBT.

Essential skills and experience  Tertiary qualifications at the postgraduate level in a relevant discipline area.  Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in the delivery of high quality teaching and curriculum development at the tertiary education level;  Demonstrated experience in contributing to the development of scholarly and innovative approaches to teaching and learning.  Demonstrated ability to engage students in learning activities.  Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication skills.  The ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with academic and administrative staff and students.  Demonstrated evidence of leadership in teaching and/or curriculum design, development, delivery (via, for example, program convenorship, program design/review, mentoring of junior teaching staff).  Demonstrated computer literacy relevant to the role, including competency with the MS Office suite.  Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise staff in order to gain support in working together to achieve positive student outcomes. Desirable criteria  Experience working in a multicultural education environment.  Knowledge of undergraduate programs at tertiary level.

Overview and Objectives of the Position:

Key Result Areas:



Maintain discipline knowledge through scholarship, industry liaison and professional development;



Provide leadership in teaching and/or curriculum design, development and delivery;



Co-ordinate program/s including program oversight, quality assurance, unit delivery and the management of teaching staff in liaison with the Academic Director.



Liaise with University academic staff with respect to matters of curriculum oversight, unit outlines, assessment and quality control of specified courses.



Promote the use of technology-enhanced teaching materials to strengthen student engagement and learning outcomes;



Undertake teaching (up to 8 hours per week) and unit coordination where relevant, for a nominated unit within Accounting and Finance.



Monitor and assess student performance and contribute to the development of high quality student assessments in keeping with SIBT’s Teaching and Learning Principles;



Undertake student consultations relating to attendance, participation and refer students to relevant SIBT support administrative staff as necessary;



Participate in and lead where relevant, internal moderation processes;



Manage casual teaching staff and foster innovative teaching and learning strategies to enhance student engagement in the learning process;



Assist with the preparation of relevant course performance reports for consideration by academic committees, as well as program reviews and reaccreditation submissions.



Maintain fair, ethical and professional work practices in accordance with SIBT’s Code of Conduct;



Contribute to the ongoing improvement of teaching and learning through industry liaison, staff collaboration, academic committee participation and liaison with industry partners;



Support compliance with relevant legislation and SIBT policy and procedures.



Other related duties as prescribed by the Academic Director.

Decision Making/Authority to Act:



The Program Convenor provides leadership and has substantial autonomy and decision-making authority in the day-to-day management of the courses of their responsibility.



The Program Convenor provides advice and recommendations on the management and delivery of the courses of their responsibility, to the Academic Director, and other staff as required.
