It is estimated that 80% of Pinterest's content is re-pinned. Creating original content—if it is interesting—will make your business stand out. Recipes, witticisms (with or without cats), inspirational sayings, home and garden products and ideas all make “pin-worthy” content. Pinterest is visual. Share clean and eye-catching images with little text. Recipes, How-tos, and DIYs are most often re-pinned. Putting a price on your items leads to higher sales. Yelp bills itself as “the best way to find great local businesses,” and says, “people use Yelp to search for everything from the city's tastiest burger to the most renowned cardiologist.”

Yelp requires users to have an account before being permitted to comment. A business owner may claim their business free of charge and respond to Yelpers' comments. Businesses may pay to sponsor, allowing impressions of their business show up on a search page even if a viewer is looking at a competitor's page. Advertising on Yelp also gives a slideshow of your photos when your business is pulled up.

Unless you are a restaurant, hotel, or professional in a tight, saturated market with an already stellar reputation, don't opt for advertising on Yelp. Do search Yelp occasionally to see if comments have been made about your business. If so, respond to both positive and negative comments.

Google has expanded into the social media scene with mediocre—but growing—results. However, for a company with an internet stronghold like Google’s, their social media platform is largely underused and holds potential.

Spotify is a must for advertising with a specific niche, especially one unified by a particular genre of music. Brands and products that appeal to specific audiences are easy to advertise on Spotify because the audience is clearly defined. What's more, listeners appreciate that advertising allows Spotify to bring them legal and free music.

Foursquare brings social media out of cyberspace and into real life as it invites users to “discover and share great places with friends.” According to its website, over 30 million people use Foursquare “to make the most of where they are.  Discover and learn about great places nearby, search for what you’re craving, and get deals and tips along the way. Best of all, Foursquare is personalized. With every check-in, we get even better at recommending places for you to try.” Foursquare is an ideal social media platform for events, restaurants, clubs, venues, and entertainment, combining for the ultimate word of mouth advertising with viral potential.  From a very specialized niche, say a cat food can recycling station, to a cat grooming parlor or cat fashion show, Foursquare shows people “where it’s at.” Promoted listings and specials unique to Foursquare allow businesses to capitalize on personal interactions.
