Successful Pastors Conference held in India

Many believers had been praying for several months that the Lord would provide an opportunity for another missionary conference to be held. Once again it has been proven that God answers prayers.Unlike the prior conferences, this year's annual missionary conference was held exclusively for the missionaries in India. Over 200 missionaries attended the conference which was held in Delhi between March 13-16, 2012. The conference was located at the Campus Crusade for Christ facility in Guruagon. (Cont. page 3)

Thousands of Slum Dwellers benefitted through the free medical camps in Delhi

Thousands of Slum Dwellers benefitted through the free medical camps in Delhi. Over 2,000 indigent people living in slums around the outskirts of Delhi benefited from free medical care provided through several medical camps. The event was organized in a joint effort between HMU and a volunteer team from Cornerstone Fellowship Church located in the USA. The camps were held during the last week of February 2012. Typically medical treatments provided by hospitals are too costly and the government run hospitals are not normally located in slum areas. Many people do not have the opportunity to reach these facilities. As for those who can afford the professional fees, it takes them a full day's commitment to travel. Since the majority of the people living in these conditions work menial jobs such as rickshaw pullers, rag pickers, domestic helps, etc., they can’t afford to be absent from their jobs. The free medical camps conducted at their door step were a great blessing.

We observed long lines develop outside the camps as soon as we set them up. Different tables were set up to handle different services such as registration, blood pressure checks, blood sugar assessments, temperature, weight, etc. Each table had long lines of people patiently waiting. For many of the poor, they had never seen such advanced medical equipment before that had been supplied by Cornerstone Fellowship Church. Greg and the church team worked diligently to assist as many people as they possibly could. Pastor Shaji along with the HMU team and volunteers were mean while busy with crowd control, medicine distribution (prescribed by a physician) and site security in the event any problems might arise.

One particular little 3 year old girl who was suffering from terrible ankle pain was brought to the camp. Her ankle was extremely swollen and red. The on-sight physician asked the little girl's elder sister why she had not been taken to the hospital sooner. Elder sister quietly replied , there are no clinics nearby. She informed the physician that her parents have to go to work early in morning and they return late at night. She told them there was no one who could have taken her sister over the last 8 days to treat the terrible burn on her ankle. more than eight days were passed by that time, after the burn injury. The physician advised that the girl needed to be rushed to the hospital immediately to try to save her foot. (Cont. page 4)

Speakers at the Conference

Pastor David Grisanti and Pr. Shibu Mathai

The speakers at this year's conference were as follows: Dr.Varughese Mathew (Saji), Pastor David Grisanti, WA Pastor Tak Poon Houston, Pastor V.O.Varughese and Thomas Cherian. These men gracefully ministered from the word of God. Pastors Nishikant, Thomas Cherian, Abin Jacob, Jijo Varghese and Shibu K.Mathai translated the messages into Hindi. Worship teams under the leadership of Pastors: Daniel George, Abin Jacob and Biju Padavath lead the congregations in worship sessions. As usual, the worship sessions were all refreshing and overflowing. While inaugurating the Delhi conference, Director Dr.Varughese Mathew exhorted the delegates launch out into the deep and let down their nets for a harvest. He was speaking from a portion of Luke 5:4. After the night session on the 2nd day, most of the delegates had left to go home. A few of the remaining delegates noticed a missionary from Karnataka state bow down to pray. Pr. Varughese Mathew along with the other leaders were guided by the Holy Spirit to pray for him. As they prayed, the missionary broke down into tears and began weeping bitterly. He was deeply touched by the spirit of God, through the ministry of the Word.

Free Medical Camps in Delhi (Cont.)

There were countless people who showed up in all kinds of ailing conditions. Some were in very poor condition because they had no money for medications to treat their medical problems. The volunteers of both Harvest Mission and Cornerstone tried to attend to each person with a smiling face and the love of Jesus in spite of their strenuous jobs. We saw over 1,000 people come to the last camp. Each and everyone was attended to until the medical supplies ran out. Inevitably some went back discouraged especially since they had squeezed time in their busy work schedules to be there. While others came to attend the camp with the condition to work additional hours to compensate the time they were away from their other jobs. Harvest Mission has ongoing church planting work and free education programs for the slum children in all the areas where the camps were held. We are confident that the resources and energy invested in these camps will somehow benefit the Kingdom of God for eternity.

CONFERENCE IN GURUGAON (Cont.) The teachings from the Word of God were so powerful that many missionaries re-dedicated their lives to a deeper commitment. It was a great joy to take part in the Lord’s Supper on 3rd day of the conference. The final day consisted of the commissioning for service of the students who had completed their two year course of study at Calvary School in Punjab. The testimonies of the missionaries shared during the conference was thrilling. Those who shared helped all the congregation to understand the pain and suffering the missionaries are going through in the battlefield in their service to the Lord.In the afternoon of March 16th, the conference came to an end and all the missionaries working for the Lord in the 16 north Indian states dispersed for their respective mission fields. The missionaries were recharged with the power of Holy Spirit and with a new determination
