Structure: 1st Address (1:1-4:43) Purpose: Moses wanted to teach and remind the people about God’s nature as a Protector and Provider to keep them motivated about keeping God’s covenants.

2nd Address (4:44-26:19) Purpose: to apply the 10 commandments to the people’s lives in the Promised Land

3rd Address (27:1-31:30) Purpose: to charge the nation to be faithful and formally name Joshua as his successor
