Syllabus Bible Doctrine (60 hrs) Teacher of Record: Dr. Larry S. Lightner, B.S., Business; MDiv, Theology; DMin., Christian Education, PhD work in Adult Education, Background: Pastor, business management, consultant, and professor in Bible, business, philosophy, education, pastoral and church administration, academic writing/grammatical studies, education consultant, and Christian School accreditation review administrator [email protected] [email protected] cell: 702-404-3675 This course is a survey and summary of ten major doctrines of the Bible (and additional doctrines as time allows) with an emphasis on knowing God more fully as the understanding and practice of sound doctrine is included in the learner’s Christian Worldview. Required Materials:   

Course manual: Bible Doctrine Survey The Baptist Faith and Message (supplied to each learner) The teacher of record will teach using the New American Standard Version of the Bible. Learners can choose to use their version of choice, but will learn more efficiently using the NASV. Suggested Bible memory verses based on the NASV will be supplied as a handouts. Course Goals     

To teach learners the foundational truths of Bible doctrine To lead learners into a deeper understanding of and appreciation for God To enrich the learner’s personal relationship to God To train learners to use rules of interpretation and proper Bible study in order to teach correct doctrine and to recognize/refute false doctrine To enable learners to understand the relationship between correct belief and correct behavior

Course Requirements  





Take notes in and for your manual ahead of and during class, and be prepared to join in discussions Set aside a daily study time to carefully read and review material for the class sessions. Read the Bible passages and be prepared for the class assignments. Learners will be responsible for the material designated for each class. Attendance is required. The class is scheduled for 15 weeks; each class is 3 hours. Per the regulations of the school, learners must attend a minimum of 75% of the classes; for this class, learners attending less than 11 classes cannot advance to the next course. If a student has to miss a class, recordings of the class can be obtained from the posting on Dropbox. Each student will need to establish an account. Audio files will only be available for two weeks as the space on Dropbox is limited. Dropbox is a

free subscription for the students—additional storage space is given to the teacher with each signup of a participant. Joining Dropbox is a help to all students. (Instructions for joining DropBox will be given during the first week of class.) Each learner is to endeavor to read the Book of Romans during the course. We will endeavor to discuss the major assignments from the text book in the class setting (at times using individual, group, or partner formats). The intent is to allow learners to apply what has been learned.
