Tank Bot From the designer Pelle Petersen Design scope: Develop a model that uses rubber elements that are new to EV3 and unique to the Education Expansion Set and has a low center of gravity. Personal connection: Tank bots are very common in the world of robotics, so developing one is not unusual. However, this was a last-minute request, so Pelle had to work very quickly to design and build a classroom-ready version that met all the requirements. This put his experience to the test! Building challenge: This model had to be built in a hurry because the required rubber elements were designed late in the process. Otherwise it’s a fairly simple robot. The rubber elements add friction to the tread, allowing this low-to-the floor model to climb over almost any terrain. Fun fact: the rubber elements only took six months from creation through design to production. Normally, an element takes 18 months to get through the approval process and production. Programming challenge: Tank bot uses the EV3 Gyro Sensor to read the angles in different figures, allowing it to drive in geometric shapes such as a triangle, square, octagon, pentagon, or hexagon. Features: EV3 Gyro Sensor, two Large Servo Motors
