Tesco Bank
Tesco Bank is the UK’s largest supermarket bank. Since launching in 1997 we have grown to 6.5 million customer accounts across a range of products and services. In 2011/12 the bank’s revenue was £1bn and the profit was £168m. Our aim is to be the financial services provider of choice for Tesco customers by offering good service and great value, and rewarding loyalty. Tesco Bank is now one of the UK’s largest internet banks, with 75% of its business online.
Online retailing
We launched Tesco.com in 2000. Since then we have become the world’s largest online grocery retailer. Our Tesco Direct website now offers more than 75,000 products.
dunnhumby
dunnhumby is a world leader in customer insight. Wholly owned by Tesco, it played a key role in the development of Tesco Clubcard, which first launched in the UK in 1995 and has since been rolled out to all our international markets. dunnhumby’s insight continues to help us stock the right products, optimise prices, run relevant promotions and communicate personalised offers for customers.
Community
We are determined that every Tesco store and business is valued and trusted by local people because we do the right thing. Working with customers, suppliers, charities and NGOs, our colleagues around the world are making a lasting difference to the communities we live and work in, and fulfilling our five Community Promises. Buying and selling our products responsibly We’re working with hundreds of local producers, stocking more of their products in our stores and we’ve established Supplier Academies to support small suppliers to grow their brands. Caring for the environment We’re making progress towards our target to be a zero-carbon business by 2050. Last year we opened our first zero carbon store in Asia and the Carbon Disclosure Project named us the top retailer in the world for carbon reporting and performance. Actively supporting local communities Over 4,500 long-term unemployed people have now got back into work through our UK Regeneration Partnership programme.
Last year we donated £74.5 million to charities and good causes and in 2012/13 aim to raise £10 million for our UK charity of the year. Providing customers with healthy choices 8.7 million people participated in our sporting events and partnerships last year and we are developing more healthy ranges across the Group. Creating good jobs and careers We invested £30 million in our Asia training academy and over the next two years we’re creating 20,000 new jobs in the UK.
Tesco at a glance Tesco is one of the world’s leading multi-channel retailers with operations in 13 countries. Our half a million colleagues work to earn the lifetime loyalty of our customers and put our responsibilities to communities at the heart of what we do.
