Page 2 NOTES FROM NORM ~ Memorial Day has come and gone! Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember those men and women who died during their time in the military. It is a somber time when we think about the tremendously huge number of people who have died in action. Most of you know someone who was killed in the military – be them family or friends. This year, even though the day has gone by, take a moment and remember those men and women, and say a ‘thank you’ to them and their families who grieve so that we can keep the freedoms that we experience and take for granted in our nation. But, Memorial Day could also be part of the Christian family. We, in a sense, celebrate Memorial Day, but call it Good Friday. It was at that time that Jesus gave His life so that we can look forward with hope – but most often take His death for granted. In our busy, fast paced schedules, it is easy to forget some of those things. One of those signs show up when we look at the number of people who attend the parade and the bridge program and the cemetery program. Each year it is declining in numbers. Thanks to the former band director, there is still a marching band that leads the parade. But, it seems like we are trying to put so many things into our schedules that something has to give. We are all ‘guilty’ of that! I’m not blaming or accusing anyone – it just seems that something ‘has to give’ in our schedules in order to do other things. Recently the Fargo Forum has had two editorials: One by Lloyd Omdahl who stated the steep decline in church membership – fairly across the board. Many of you have expressed that concern here at Trinity. The second one was an attempt to tell us why there is this steep decline in church membership. I believe that there are many reasons and I am not going to list some reasons because I believe that everyone has a ‘justifiable’ belief in their mind to why church doesn’t have to be a major part of one’s life. One of my rambling thoughts: Unless a person gets actively involved in the way of the church, the church is not very important in that person’s life! A high school coach told his team many years ago: “I expect you to sleep, eat, and to talk basketball every day of the week!” We were expected to make basketball our top priority and to immerse ourselves in basketball during the entire season. Maybe that is the reason that church membership is declining: we don’t allow ourselves to get immersed in the scriptures and worship and prayer and thus our church (and maybe even our faith) doesn’t mean much to us! It is hanging on the hook and we might take it down when we think it might help. I encourage you to ponder your ‘church life’ and/or your ‘faith life’ and come in and visit with me. As hopefully you would expect, I do believe that your faith walk and your church involvement should be an important part of your and my lives. We need to be in this together. May your summer be filled with much joy and create many wonderful memories. Pastor Norm

Page 3 YOUTH REPORT: Easter breakfast was well attended. Thank you to all that came and eat with us and the confirmation parents for donating all the food that was served, everything was delicious! A huge “Thank you” to the 7th graders and parents for all their work on having everything ready and cleaned up at the end. The Mission youth have been very busy doing all kinds of fundraisers for their mission trip in July to New Orleans. A loose change Sunday was held. They have helped with the Buffalo Supper and the Kiwanis Banquet. They sold Heggies Pizzas which was a huge success again this year. We held a tip night at the Pizza Ranch with a lot of people coming out and showing their support. Toni Rasmusson lead us in a Pinterest party that we had different crafts that could be made, thank you Toni. We had a free will offering breakfast on May 5th, after church which we served over a hundred people. If anyone has projects that you need help with and would consider giving a donation, please consider our mission youth to help. If you contact the church and we can get something set up. Thank you everyone for giving our youth your support! The geranium fundraiser that youth from 5th-12th grade were selling was another success this year with eight hundred and fifty-eight plants sold. May is a busy month with Confirmation classes coming to an end for another year. A HUGE “Thank You” needs to go out to the wonderful Faith Leaders that have stepped up to guide our Youth. Also to Pastor Tammy for all her guidance. You all are a TRUE blessing! Senior breakfast was amazing! The Junior class and parents did a wonderful job serving a delicious breakfast and having everything ready, thank you! We had fourteen Seniors and their family members attend which was a total of eighty-two people being served. Remember to sign up to Acolyte on the signup page. Kristi Odegard

Page 4 President’s Report “Anyone can find the dirt in someone. Be the one who finds the GOLD.” Proverbs 11:27. I received this Bible verse on my Facebook and found it worthy of a share. It is from Proverbs and possesses true words of wisdom. How easy is it to see the fault in someone and how tempting to knock them down when we do. By doing so we may think that it makes us look and maybe feel better about ourselves, but the opposite is true. I believe that this shows a true fault in our character and may be where God’s warning not to covet comes into play. This last commandment was given to us so that we may be content with what we have and always willing to share our blessings with others. When we do this we will feel better about ourselves and find it easy to find the GOLD in someone else. Everyone is precious in Jesus’ sight and when we are a true Christian everyone should be precious in our sight too. This summer as we take a much needed break from the many demands of the winter season, may we look in the mirror and remember those who may not be as fortunate. Most think of a time of need and assisting our fellowman during the time of giving at Christmas, but without the school lunch programs many are in need of nutritious food. Please remember to put some extra items in your grocery cart and drop off at the local food pantry. There are also kids that may like to cool off at the local pool and can’t afford to get a pool ticket, maybe dropping off a donation at the pool for such a time as this may be the ticket. Also, while spring cleaning please drop off those many books your children may be tired of to give them new life to the local library for another to enjoy! Another option is a donation to the two summer vacation Bible schools that are being offered to Sunday school age children in our church and community. There are so many ways to find the GOLD in and for someone else too. Another place to give is right here at Trinity, for while another year of Sunday school is done, it is a great time to get away and enjoy a weekend away. While you may worship at another destination, please remember your local place of worship and that the bills still need to be paid there just like when you’re not home. On that note on behalf of the Trinity Church Council President Lyle Olson and myself, we would like to with you a blessed summer with solace and peace from our loving God who blesses us to be a blessing to others. Connie Radcliffe, Trinity Lutheran Church Council Vice President.
